Has anyone else had this happen? I was in a match that lasted a total of about 2 min. There was mechs on the hill and as soon as our mechs started clearing the hills, some still in the tree lines, we started getting picked off with head shots. My mech took 2 hits from one mech all in the cockpit, then as I tried to get behind cover and see what happened, I got another cockpit shot and died. I could understand a lucky cockpit shot and have seen one about once a month. But this was twice on me in one match. It was the ONLY damaged area of my mech.

Then everyone else on my team started complaining of getting head shot as well. Then someone start complaining about something called Aimbot.

Is there such a thing? And if so, are the Dev's able to detect who is using them so they can block them? Do we need to report who we think is using them so that they can investigate it?

I would hate to see one of my favorite games become unplayable do to some talent-less kids with "Aimbots".

Any suspect games/pilots, take some screens, make a vid, sent to suppot@mwomercs.com with all the details.

Were you or your friends in a Cataphract? I have been having an extraordinary streak of head shots on Phracts lately. I even turned in a ticket cause in the last three days I have capped 12 Phracts by head shots. I am not normally the accurate a shot.

Did the headshot kills happen to be against 2 Catapults?

The Catapults are the easiest to headshot, sometimes even by accident due to the size of the head hitbox.

I have seen my fair share of good sniper pilots, and I have myself been of a string of head shots (5 in a row is my record) but never have I seen anything suspicious so far of Aim Bots.

But if you think there are, always run a screen capture or recording program when you play so you can build up some evidence. If you can prove that there are Aim Bots within the game and submit them to PGI's Email DO IT!

As a community, we need to work sooner than later to make sure such hacks are not present in the game -- but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it.

The wrong way is making a wild acusation thread with zero evidence and name calling (See name and shame pinned thread).

The right way to go about it is to send your photo/video evidence straight to the support email (Sorry! I forget the exact name of the email address right off my head), so the proper people can get to the bottom of any potential hacks immediately.

I was in a Hunchback and the rest of the team was a mix of Mechs. They were all taken out in a matter of seconds once we rounded the hills. Even the Assaults.

Yea, I post a thread back in September about aim bots, do a search on it and you will be surprised on how many hacker sites there are that offer aim bots for MWO. PGI would need to install Punk Buster(or something like it) and even then there is no guarantee. I took one the other nite, guy melted my head from 800 meters with a one shot ppc.

I've participated only in one match where some dude headshot-ed 5 mechs within about 1 minute, all while they were moving at a distance of about 500m - 700m or so (no major combat had happened). Crazy luck or master marksman shots, I will never know.
Reporting these things that seem iffy is the best one can do, calling out people during the match because they possibly had their luckiest shot ever isn't the right approach imo. PGI supposedely has tools to detect cheating and supposedely the CSRs go after these people when they have valid proof.

Generally though people love to cry "Aimbot" in shooters, when they get killed and do not understand how / why they were killed, so I mostly blame it on the CoD crowd. So far I had very few reasons to believe that there was rampant cheating going on in MWO.

What would you recommend for a video capture program to record my game play with? I am hoping I am wrong and that it was just a series of REALLY good shots from Elite players.

I dont stand still, if I'm not moving I'm turning and twisting the torso. Never get headshotted. Then agian I'm usually in an atlas or a very fast mech, both are very hard to headshot.

If moving targets are being headshotted at insane ranges it's hard to believe it's "just" an aimbot, maybe it'd work for someone with 5ms ping or something, there still is a lagshield, even though the last patch made it much better.

I generally think that games that good (headshot after headshot) generally follow a pattern...

Someone has one game like that, it's happenstance.

Someone has two games like that it's coincidence.

Three games like that is probably enemy action.

Four and someone's probably going to be busted as as using a bot.

But...

Since I rarely play with people for more than one match all I can do is report the happenstance (which I have yet to need to actually).

Enough people reporting a single player, and the combat logs get looked at. If the combat logs show an improbable amount of headshots... then... boom... busted aimbot.

Too bad it doesn't keep them away permanently though.

I've never been in a game to witness anything that I truly suspected of aimbot play but as for it existing in MWO, that's already been shown. A search on youtube (via another thread) showed basically an advertisement for aimbot style software.

the films on youtube are a scam, probly trying to get you to install something to steal your creditcard nr's. There's no actual footage of an aimbot in play.

they'll pop up eventually though.

There is no doubt that there are people hacking this game. That being said, the best you can do is gather proof and report it. If a person is found to be truly hacking they will be dealt with.

I haven't been killed by a headshot in at least a month, not that there aren't any people running aimbots, but it certainly doesn't seem prominent.

Two people accused me of using aimbot earlier tonight in Frozen City.

Some people are just lucky and get a lot of head shots in a row. Doesn't help if the other team is standing still either.

You most likely got hit with a bit of bad luck. I've had random runs where I managed to cockpit multiple people in a row in my 4 PPC Stalker.

I wouldn't even begin thinking aim bot unless they are shooting you the exact moment your cockpit pixels are visible from their location.

Headshots are even easier if you have the high ground.
