And the Cat is almost exclusively used as a LRM platform in the current meta, leaving no room for other 'Mechs of its type.
Of course.

A 'Mech like the Archer would at least be different enough with regards to weapon hardpoint types, disposition and overall 'Mech profile that it could stand apart and fill another niche; it will not be implemented in MWO, naturally, but it's still nice to pretend otherwise.

Well, you can make an Archer of sorts out of an AWS-8T. LRM 20's in the LT and RT, 4 medium lasers in the arms (okay, two of them should have been torso mounted, but it's close enough for government work) and just give it the same armor values an ARC-2R would have. Granted it's 10 tons overweight and unless you spend money on a bigger, heavier engine it'll be a bit too slow for a proper Archer, and chances are you'll have more heatsinks than an actual Archer would, but you can at least get a reasonable Archer-knockoff out of it. That's how I've done up my 8T.

If an actual Archer was available, however, I'd dump the Awrcher for the real thing in a heartbeat. I've always loved the Archer almost as much as I love the Thunderbolt and the Phoenix Hawk.

You seem to think that the Archer wouldn't end up as an SRM boat, just like the Cat and Stalker.
