As the title says, I overheated shutdown, never overode the shutdown powered up, cooled to 40% shot my PPC shot up to 70% and exploded... somebody explain cuz from the patch notes I saw that this only happens when you override the shutdown???

No you can still die if the heat generated by the weapon you fire exceeds the 100% threshold enough to cause enough damage to your engine....that in the patch notes only applys to over riding shutdown before it happens not what happens after you power up if you do shut down.

Given the quirks of the new override/shutdown/powerup system, I wouldn't be surprised if this were one of the new bugs.

With the way servers and client latency in MWO operate these days, it's surprising anyone knows anything about how something works. I mean, really.

Game is in desperate need of a combat log. Hard to test when you have not friggin clue how you died.

you'd think all us 'beta testers" would have such tools at our disposal.

This might be a new bug. Sometime in the past two days I was at about 40% heat (and in a commando, with no high heat weapons). I simply died while running. No one shot me. I didn't fire my own weapons. I was simply running from one point to another and I exploded. Jack Corvus killed Jack Corvus.

Sounds like a lie. If you were just running then you shouldn't have been in 40% heat zone in the first place.

Perhaps, perhaps not.

In light of the changes to power up/down and override, I wouldn't rule anything out entirely. Oddities in the issue he experienced may simply be due to a poor description of what he was doing, etc.

What would be wonderful, would be if we had a Training Room, where we could load in a mech, and run around doing whatever. Reproducing issues like these heat ones is entirely doable solo in such an envrionment, where it is not detrimental to your fellow players.

Come to think of it, a Training Room that let you roam maps would also aid in finding problems with the geometry and collision of the map itself, again without causing problems for your fellow players. (As in not face planting into a wall for 30 seconds testing something out, lol). I've noticed over the past few weeks, several spots (on Frozen and River) where there is invisible collision that blocks fire that has a clear line of sight. I'm sure there are a lot more to find.

Er... way off track, sorry lol. I just want a training room so I can track down issues and not waste my team's time :)

Yeah, it's not possible I had a fight several moments earlier, long enough to be out of the engagement but not so long as to have completely cooled off ;) (edit: And no, I wasn't taking internal damage from previous high heat. It was just an instant death. Boom). It takes a long time to cool off on Caustic. You should work on those incredible detective skills of yours there genius, and realise a person doesn't need to tell their entire battle story from start to finish to relate an experience, and that betas just might indeed have bugs.

You probably had some ammo that exploded. Happened to me once, when i stupidly stored ammo in my head. Even when my heat was below 100%.

If it wasn't a bug, then I would expect this the most. It would be the first heat-based ammo explosion I've witnessed (and shocked to see at a lower heat value than it should ever occur). Ammo is stored in the RT and LT and I had an XL engine in that mech.

I vote bug.

If being at 70% heat is enough to let ammo explode, this is something PGI really needs to let people know. It really changes how ballistics work.

I've exploded a few times while under the 100% threshold. Not sure if it's a bug or if the display is incorrectly showing just how much heat we really do have sometimes.

You will never take damage from the heat system if you do not override. The auto shutdown will always prevent it.

The system was just re-factored by our engineers to accommodative the new startup sequence and other cockpit animations. We'll iron those bugs out over the next couple patches.

I died like that just a few games ago. I have 4med lz and one pulse with a gauss rifle and my heat was about 65 to 70% and i just died. Had plenty of armor left all over. Being that Gauss ammo doesn't explode, i was very confused as to why i died.
