True story and good post except for this ^^
Just for the record, I regularly score >= 300 damage in my gauss kitty. It's only a gimpy build in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it (most PUG gamers, granted) or doesn't have the rig and ping to use it effectively.

Kinda like me!

i have gotten used to diving into the fray in an Atlas brawler and I just can't get into the right stand off range mentality. So I swapped the Gauss for Ultras and Large lasers and now I have a good heavy Mech I can use. Sucks cause I want to snipe with twin Gauss!

The funny thing, the minority are the people who actually excel at this game. The rest just are underpar. That much is evident by the amount of whines and complaints on these forums. You can always tell who the crappy players are. They whine on the forums. These players are ones units should avoid because they will be Untrainable and uncoordinated and will REFUSE to get any better.
I've seen some of these players ingame as well. They barely get over 100 damage and blame a premade for it. They refuse to use TS, they refuse to twist their torso to spread damage, they refuse to focus fire targets, they run off after lone lights to get ambushed, they use gimped configs like the Gausspult, they don't even understand what ECM does when they complain about it (I swear you think that they believe ECM increases streak damage or something), they refuse to lag shoot, and just whine and cry about things without learning how to counter them or just actually shooting their damn target to kill it.
I'm perfectly fine with PUG stomping the crap out of them. Whether I'm solo, duo, or three to four manning it. If I can get at least one or two of them to rage quit out of this game, I'm helping MWO as a whole. We do not need these players in MWO. In fact it would be best for online gaming on a whole if they just found a different hobby entirely.
your elitism i can deal with, the rest, no. whether or not you are good, it is easy as hell to see the problems with the game and point them out. your tirade over 'entitlement' is ridiculous and unrelated. one does not need to be Raphael to point out problems with amateurish art. the fact that they blame something that is broken for their lack of skill is irrelevant. the problem DOES exist and them pointing it out is not a problem unless you are the most obnoxious kind of drooling fanboy.

Sigh, I know. I got REALLY good with it for a long time... then I started playing my DDC, my Streakmando, and my Streak-meow-meow instead and all of my standoff-sniping skills seem to have disintegrated. I rolled it out for two matches last night with a couple of you guys and did < 100 damage both games haha. I was kind of embarrassed...

Why does everyone always confuse "ignored" with "not YET addressed"? It's really too easy guys. The BIG issues? The ones that need fixed the worst? The ones that are "driving everyone away from the game" and "being ignored by the devs"?
Check this out.
THOSE ARE THE HARDEST, MOST TIME CONSUMING, AND MOST CRITICAL-TO-TEST-THE-P*SS-OUT-OF FIXES!!!! You can't expect both quality work and quick turnaround. ESPECIALLY not for free. It's not a hard concept.
And again Volume, I see that YOU PERSONALLY have a Founders' tag. I understand your frustrations, and make no judgements about your (rather justified) attitudes. This comment, although I quoted you, was directed to everyone else who is NOT wearing a Founders' tag and uses that flawed argument you just presented.

Had to re-qoute this for truth. Adaption is the key. ECM changed the game, if you want to play successfully you have to change your game.
Yes I know ECM isn't quite right. I'm not really interested in discussing now, there are dozens of existing threads doing that.
The simple fact is this: ECM is here to stay and its very near to what PGI intended. They have been quite clear on that topic. Every player now has a easy choice to make: adapt and work with/around/through ECM or not. I think people had certain builds they liked pre-ECM and now ECM has change the game for them. I think some people are having trouble with it are having trouble adapting to the new regime.
Don't want to run an ECM mech? Fine, don't. Don't want to be affected by ECM? Fine, tone down the use of LRMs and SSRM2s. Every other weapon system is unaffected by ECM. Its about adaption to the game, not trying to force the game to adapt to you.
Furthermore one of the core pillars of this game is teamwork. To beat ECM you need teamwork. Fail to do that and you will lose. Yes, I know about the lack of voice coms for PUGs but we all know the PUG games are going to change when ELO comes online. We also all know that they are working to fix up C3 so its available to everybody who wants to use it. So I really don't get why people complain about these things, except to know how impatient they are.
PGI has no responsibility to adapt their game to us, if we want to play it, then we play it and adapt to it. We are not entitled to this game at all, we are lucky it is around. We are lucky Jordan Weiseman and Russ Bullock got the ball rolling. We are lucky to have people like Garth and Paul on staff who are so dedicated an passionate about this game who have stuck with it even if so many noisy "fans" of the game tear them down and insult them.
This isn't me kissing butts here, this is the cold, honest reality. PGI is responsible to its ownership and its contracts with its publisher (IGP) and the IP holder (Microsoft). Everything else is gravy.

Skill has actually relatively little to do with it. Anyone can get better at this game. ANYONE. I have on three separate occasions taken a new player under my wing and turned them into an absolute monster. One of them actually gets accused of premading when he solo queues.
But not everyone wants to try. They want to stick in their little niche and whine/complain their way to get what they want rather than working towards a goal. Sorry, it doesn't take skill to download TS, double click it, and then copy/paste a IP addy. Thats what people complain about. If that is too hard for them, they have no hope whatsoever.
It takes a mindset that most online players lack. They grind games rather then try to play them. They want to maximize rewards rather then going for the win. They blame the game, team, opponents, ect rather than taking personal responsibility for their own ineptitude.
Look at all the complaints about ECM. The only thing that ECM nullifies is Streaks. The little SSRM2 that is only a threat when boated (and boating turns you into a one trick pony). ECM isn't anywhere as close to being OP as people claim. In fact I don't even use it most times in the groups I run with. We typically just run stuff with large lasers. Because of the incapability of today's gamers to adapt. They are sitting ducks to being focused by 4-8 Large Lasers (from 2-4 mechs).
Yup, to all those PUG stompers out there. Just take something (doesn't matter what, as long as it can mount it) with 4 Large Lasers, DHS it out to be 1.4+ heat efficiency and just stomp pugs. You'll get 700 damage a round EACH and end the fight in 2 minutes once contact is made. No need for LRMS, Streaks, Guass, SRMs, or ECM. This worked even with lagshield before the last patch, but now it just two-three shots anything under 50 tons. PUG'ers cannot use this tactic since they refuse to coordinate, but anyone willing to group up and focus fire will dominate.
Have fun making those kids rage quit.
