I click on the chassis that I want to transfer EXP from and I do not see anything allowing me to do this.

Of course, the exception is if you have more money than time and don't enjoy running the mechs. Then of course it doesn't hurt to spend 20$ to save yourself some grinding in a painful design.
Checking the launcher now.
When you have the mech selected in the pilot lab in the top right is the option to Exchange Exp. Its next to the exp total above heat containment.

Top right in the big middle window will an orange "Exchange XP" button appear.
Click that and you get a new window with a slider you can use to convert an amount of your MechXP into General XP if you like to spend some of your MC.
25 GXP cost 1 MC.
General XP is put into a XP Pool that is not Mechspecific - the amount of GXP is shown at the bottom of the Mechlab.
As long you have enough GXP the Mechlab will ask if you want to use GXP or MechXP when you purchase the Mech Skills.

In the pilotlab, in the middlewindow, on top of the right blue basic skill.
If your Mech has Mech XP there should have to appear the exchange button.
You need first to convert XP from Mechs that already have XP into GXP.
After that you can go to the Mech you want to give GXP.

What the people above are failing to mention is that you CAN NOT convert mech XP to general XP until you have completed the entire basic tier for three versions of that mech.
This change was put in a couple of patches ago.

Sorry, that's not true. I only have all the basics unlocked for that 1 variant and I have the option to convert mine. .. Perhaps you just need to have all the basics unlocked for that specific variant to sell? But you certainly don't need to have all 3 variants unlocked.
(can't post my screen shot here, post too short error?) EDIT: I used alt+printscreen to get an image, but when I paste it to the message/editor, it says I have to add a post (in the advanced editor), or I get a post_too_short error in the quick reply part, even with text.. anyone know what that's about?

Did you go to the Pilot tab and click on the mech that you are using and see if you are building Mech EXP there? I think that is the only place it will show how much you have.

Whoops, my bad. Yes indeed, you only have to have all the basics done for the variant you want to convert MXP to GXP on.
Just confirmed this on my stalker.
