I guess its me but even when enemy Mech is +/- 500 meters or closer , i cannot target mech....pushing the associated button doesnt do anything.
Even more frustrating is that they wont show up on radar , even when they are RIGHT in front of me, shooting the crap out of me.... some r there, but most mechs arent (eg 2 out of 10 r vissible)

I'm also missing a feature : target NEAREST enemy for instance... or didnt i find the binding yet ?
But for now the target NEXT enemy isnt working for me so.... :)

I played MW 1 & 2 and MWLL, so im not completely a new player althow in this version, i do feel more like a fresh noob.

Is there somewhere a guide to all the gizmo's ? (not the tutorials..i've already seen them all)

Regards,

Most likely what you are seeing is that the enemy mechs are cloaked under the ECM bubble, and so you wont be able to target them. They wont even have a triangle on top, you can only use your eyesight to see them. As for the nearest mech and all that, I've always just used the default key ® to select the mech, and normally it selects the one you are looking at. I'm not even sure if you can select the nearest mech automatically or anything like that. So, face the direction that the enemy mech on your battlegrid is, and click R and it should select the one you are looking at, which will most likely be the one closest to you.

Like TheAquired said, it's probably ecm. If they are using it you've only got a window of 20m between 200m-180m to target them and get a missle lock (if needed). Any closer and you can still target but no missle lock. Any farther and you can't do either (unless you've got a TAG)

Ah.. ok ,thanks.
Then ECM renders the 'nearest enemy' a bit useless so that issue is already gone :)

I guess practising is the way to go

Thanks !

Note that the Targetting doesn't neccesarily target the nearest, and it only targets a mech in the center of your vision- if they are at the edge of your screen, you need to turn to face them more before you will be able to collect a target lock. R again will, of course, cycle through available targets in your line of sight.

ECM is a big deal, and something that really sets MWLL and MWO apart. Note that you do not share targetting or position data with allies when under the effects of ECM- from your teammates point of view, you vanish off the map. Communication and map awareness are key.

Mhm... now the 'enemy not showing on my radar' is starting to make sense with the enemy mech staying under an ECM bubble.

Is there a way to find out wich mech has the ECM onboard and if yes, in wich part of the mech it resides to disable it ?

You can look up the list in the general channel. The link below is very useful for looking up mechs/weapons.

Note: ECM is one of the worst changes they have done with the game. Their talking about re-balancing it but they have to wait till they run out of coolaid.

The mechs that may carry an ecm:
  • COM 2D
  • RVN 3L
  • SDR 5D
  • CDA 3M
  • AS7 DDC
You will want to assume that ALL of these variants are carrying an ECM until proven otherwise. The ECM unit can be mounted in any section that fits 2 crits, you have no way to know which section a mech has installed it's ECM suite.

Of course if they have their ECM in it's standard disrupt mode, you probably won't be able to see which variant they are.

Keep an eye on the location of your team with Q (or check the Battlegrid with :P If you know you have six teammates alive but you cannot see them with Q, they're under enemy ECM. Map awareness will give you a better idea of which part of the map they're probably in, and communication with your team will give you a definitive answer.

When an enemy ECM mech approaches you can see 'low signal bars' icon on the far right of the HUD.

When an ally ECM is covering you you can see an 'eye' icon.

They can carry it in any 2 crit slot location. Some hide it in the arms, some in the legs or torso. More often than not it is hidden in the center torso of some, unless it's a commando 2-D. That space is needed to take advantage of the third missile launcher, so for them it's often in a side torso or in a leg.

A DDC Atlas sporting center-torso lasers will have it in a side torso or leg; almost always the legs.
If the DDC Atlas does NOT have center-torso lasers, it is in the center torso.
