Are you joking? The fastest 'Phract is still 20km/h slower.

I may "only" have 30~35 firepower, but that's all I need to core you or take your cabin out fast.

A Dragon can have as much as 402 armor. Still plenty for something that quick.

The hardpoints suck
In current matchmaker it's placed against other heavy mechs
That being said, it's not completely terrible, as it can go faster than any of the mediums aside from Cicada and Cent 9D while having more armor and more firepower. Dragons can reach 97.2kph before speed tweak. A cataphract only hits 78.7kph before speed tweak.
The 5N is pretty worthless, 3 ballistic hardpoints on what's supposed to be a fast 60 ton mech.
I own (and own with) a Flame, 1C, and 1N. It can be done, but don't expect to brawl. Dragons are much closer to striker mechs.

It's the matchmaker's fault for not matching by total weight but by weight class. This will change someday and then Commandos and Dragons will be worth it.

Personally, I dont care for either one, but I have always said its personal pref and playstyle that will dictate your choices.
In some games, I have seen dragons smoke everything. Other games the dragon dies quick. It always depends on the pilots.
Personally, I feel the Spider is the worst mech in the game. I would rather play a Trial then a spider.

It just takes skill to pilot right, unlike cheese builds of (both) Cats.

Then also the fact that the high maximum engine size of the Dragon affords it much faster twisting than other heavies, and the fact that its arms also have a wider movement range than, for example, the Cataphract, makes it easily the best strafer in the class, especially if it ends up in the classical circle dance.
The Dragon is also easily the best sniping 'mech. Put a Gauss, or the triple AC/2s in the arm, and you'll have a very mobile platform ideal for sniping then repositioning quickly. The arm obviously takes more skill to aim, but it does afford a very wide range of targeting.
Besides, the worst 'mech in game should be the Death's Knell far as I'm concerned.

The Dragon is far from the worst mech in the game. The issue with the dragon is that it requires skill to play, therefore those without skill will call it a bad mech; when in actual fact it is they that are bad mechwarriors.
Catapract nearly as fast as a dragon? Who are you kidding, dragons max out at 106.9kph
Weapons well lets take that 106.9kph dragon how does 4 large laser sound, or 4 mediums and an UAC5 and a slow dragon doing say 89.1kph can mount even more weapons. So dragons can mount an acceptable amount of weapons for their class.
Armour 402 points ok its not massive but you need to hit the dragon before you can start eating away at the armour.
I personally would fight any mech 1 vs 1 with my dragon.

but its really fast lol.
kind of why Flame is P2W though. its a lot better than the other dragons in hardpoints with out the drawbacks.

The hardpoints were the absolute worst. I actually bought it seeing there were two missile hardpoints on it but only one LRM10. Thought I'd buy it and maybe throw down with a pair of LRM 15's, even it out. This is why I sold it. Those 2 missile hard points are in the center torso. I think this design dates back to Star League days when they built the first mechs. At least one could say that they put 2 missile slots in the center torso because they didn't know what they were doing, but it looks good on paper. Who puts two in the CT? Why?
Here's to the engineer who designed the Dragon, and because of him, I don't PILOT ONE!

If you cant exploit speed and think strategy consists of turning left and walking in circles, or walking up to an enemy mech and face humping it, Dragon is not the mech for you.
That said, two of the Dragon chassis have absolutely awful hardpoints.

because you can get a Catapult or a Cataphrakt for it, which do exatly the same thing (destroy things) as the dragon, but with less weapons, armor, ammo and crapy HP (come on 3 BLs in a ARM??)

IF YOU DECIDE TO USE A DRAGON, YOU DAMAGE YOUR TEAM BY -1 HEAVY INSTEAD OF A MEDIUM MECH!
Take a medium instead please, like a Hunch or so.

Just as players can make builds to maximize a Cataphract's potential, so too occurs with the Dragon. To say running a Dragon is an automatic penalty to your team based soley on the mech instead of the player is completely unfounded.

If we were trying to pick out worst mechs in the game, taking into account all the potential roles and objectives, it would probably be one of the lights - even with ECM. There's not enough objective based rewards or large enough maps for their speed to be all that advantageous, and they're SSRM fodder.

I still play both mechs though and do well in pubs
