Ive been playing for a couple of days, have ~13M C-bills saved up, and about 15k skill points saved up. I've been trying to spend all of this in the mech lab, but, as far as I can tell, I'm not able to buy my first mech without any MC. Also, It seems that I am unable to spend any of these skill points without first buying my first mech (everything is grayed out).
Am I misunderstanding something?
I have tried to buy some MC, but its broken, and wont let me buy any. (Support ticket has been submitted). Is this the way it works? F2P is trial mechs only, and you cant spend any of the skill points you earned until you buy a mech with MC?

ok first off did you click the owned mech tab? you'll see 4 empty mech bays there.
if so the first mechs you will see are hero mechs, click on the tabs above them. light, medium, heavy , assault.
you'll see a list of mech available from that point on.
no you don't need to send any MC in game ever unless you want to.
support will get in touch if buying MC is an issue also
skill point are spent on own mechs via pilot lab

Demoned covered most of it, but yes you have to OWN the mech before you buy skills in it. The trials will let you earn exp but you cant spend it until you purchase the design... Consider it a try before you buy with a perk of getting credit for drive time.

Yep, I am in the "create new mech" screen. I want to buy a CTF-2x, so I can lose this LBX that I keep splattering my own teammates with. It says that I need 2305 MC and roughly 5.7M C-bills. Right under the listed price there is a button to buy more MC (which I cant do), and a button to buy more C-bills (which I dont need). If I dont need those 2305 MCs that it says I need, Where is the "Buy this mech" button?

There should be a button:
BUY CB
click it.
BUY CB
click it.

AHA!. Many thanx. That was the button. Might sound totally noobish of me, but "Buy CB" does not mean "Buy with CB." I thought that button let you turn in MC for more C-Bills. Thank you

Glad you got it resolved... Yes the wording could be improved a fair bit.

Just wait until you go to outfit it.. the GUI is a complete mess and very unintuitive. You might want to hit http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab to test your fits.. and just remember that you should upgrade structure/armor/heatsinks before you mess around too much since you need the space/weight to be where it will be when outfitted (and switching those makes a huge difference in what you can ultimately fit).
That also means you will want to save up the lion's share of the "final cost" before you buy the gimped up stock mechs. For a 3m mech, it will be 11m for me to outfit it the way I want. Running it now, mostly gimped, is bringing poor to mixed results. Yet fully fitted, it should be much more robust. .. only 5m more to go!
