When your team comes upon a group of mixed enemy mechs, which do you think should be targeted first?

Generally speaking, Assaults. But depends on the specific builds. You should try to get as much of your enemy's firepower out of the game as fast as you can. Most of the times this will mean you should target the big mechs first. But when there's a Catapult A1 with SRMs or something similar that can deal much damage, that may be a priority target, too.

Depends more on load out than weight class.

Double AC20
Double Gauss
LRM boats
SRM-pult

Then I default to:
1) anything I can get behind
2) anything attacking me
3) anything highly damaged, but still combat capable
4) assaults
5) heavies
6) lights
7) mediums

Heavies because they tend to have the highest firepower to armour ratio, with the heat system the way it is in this game assaults dont have the ability to put as much heat sinking to a gun as a heavy meaning that throughout a large engagement the assault is heat limited more than a heavy whilst the heavy also has a fairly large chunk of armour less in comparison as well.

I then move onto mediums as i can remove them from the game in a single salvo usually.

ECM, so then you can actually tell what the other mechs are carrying.

Depends on so many different factors.

Is anyone on the other team alone?
Is anyone on the other team overextend(attacking so aggressively that he becomes cut-off)?
Is anyone on the other team not paying attention(lacking situational awareness)?
Is anyone on the other team in a bad position regarding terrain or in an easily attack-able position?
What mech am I in?
What mechs do my team have?
What mechs do the enemy team have?
Do we have ECM?
Do they have ECM?
Etc.

Honestly, for me it depends entirely on the situation, in some cases an Assault mech may be the clear target in others the Heavy, the Medium or even the Light Mechs.

These days I run an Assault mech. By prioritizing enemy Assaults I can remove them from the equation giving further tonnage/firepower advantage to my team.

Plus wit the STK's low torso twist value and low speed, it's tough for me to catch Lights. I'll focus on Assaults/Heavies/Meds then trundle to an objective.

I suppose I was thinking when your group comes across a group of enemy mechs.

My initial thought was go for the Atlas / assault. The thing is, I keep seeing everyone focusing on the Atlas, as it absorbs hits, the mediums circle behind, and start picking the group off one by one, while we're occupied.

Actually my team tends to target first ECMs, then cheese builds.

It depends on the situation. I mostly boils down to this:

Whoever can disrupt the tactic being used
Whoever has the most firepower
Whoever can be droped the fastest

Anything, more depends on what my group has.

From Btech Muxing, my experience has been to call CF on the mech which most of yoru team members have line of sight on. This will ensure your team follows your orders. That said, the priority is mechs with high firepower to armor ratio.

I usaully pilot a Atlas D. I do fairly well. I only do PUG matches and have a kill ratio of 1.56. Being a assualt guy, i have to think ahead. By this i mean find the main battle and engage. I used to have only short ranged weapons, but added a lrm 10. This gives me the ability to wear down the enemy before the short range battle starts. I target lights at range then my fellow assault mechs. The reason is this; I hate having to deal with a light and a assualt mech at the same time. With lights, just put you back to a cliff or wall and wait for them to come around and let the streaks and med lasers to there work. Every now and then hit em with a ac 20 or a gauss and they go down quick. Assualt pilots out there, wait for the main battle to start, then move in. Once commited, it is a fight to the end lol. Hit lights first then the heaviest mech you can find.

oh ya and use cover and watch out for those dual gauss and ac 20 cats lol
