Just had a match where the other team had two Atlai left and we were a CDA a Raven a Stalker and a HB. However one of the Atlai chased our Hunchback and started to pick on our stalker with LRMs I decided to cripple him with my CDA's 3 LLs. He neglected me shooting down his right leg. Then his leg blew up and the atlas was dead.

How in hell did an Atlas manage to die from getting his right leg killed?

That's why I try to only store Gauss ammo in my legs...

I'm noticing some old MW4 habbits with people intentionally gimping their own legs.

Except instead of just stripping the armor off their also putting ammo in their ;);;

Well, I almost always dump ammo in my legs with the exception of light mechs. Medium and larger mechs usually don't get legged that often, mainly because they're slow. I only leg light mechs to slow them down, I might try and leg a larger mech but usually I'm more concerned with destroying their weapons to lower and stop their damage output.

I never strip armor off my mechs, if I do its at most 1/2 a ton.

Ammo in the legs isn't always a bad idea.

It's putting ammo in there and then thinking it's a good idea to have your leg armor value at like 25.

I think you'll find that guys running Double Heat Sinks often are forced to store ammo in their legs, since the heat sinks won't fit. On an Atlas, crit space is pretty thin. So you just about have to use the legs for ammo storage, you can't afford to let those 4 crit slots go to waste.

If he was using DHS then his legs become a prime location for ammunition. People also rarely even attempt to target an Atlas's legs, so Assault pilots tend to shave armor off the legs as well.

Off topic, but didn't I see you pull a Gurran Lagann with a Spider and an Atlas?

Freaking hilarious.

When i run a light or fast med my first shot is always for a leg so i can tell if they are paper.

Well I might develop a habbit to legging assaults anyways. Easy to hit target and even if they do not strip armor from them I need at most three runs to put their armor away and if there is ammo in there the next hit kills. Just did the same to a stalker. Takes a lot more runs to wear down their torsos. Especially when you try to go for a particular part, the good pilots all move their torsos around to spread damage. Focusing on a leg seems a lot easier to me.

I don't think ammo explosions work like tabletop. For instance does a full ton of SRM ammo (100 missiles) do 100 x 2.5 = 250 Damage? or does it do 2.5 damage or possibely 2.5 per second until it is all cooked off.

I infrequently use ammo dependant mechs, and I have survived an ammo explosion (you can hear and feel it happening, a bunch of little explotions like getting hit with an AC2). Although I know I have died from ammo explosions before as well, although at the time I think it was heat related and possibily multiple ammo bins going off simultaniously.

Not sure, but I think it's incremental.

I know I've had some kills where the target I was shooting at has wandered behind a building or hill after I've been shooting, then a few seconds later I get kill credit and I go "Yay for ammo explosions!"

Ammo is incremental when it cooks off from over-heat. I think much more catastrophic when it is hit. Plus, it doesn't always blow up the whole mech or even part. I've had my SRM ammo taken out by an early critical hit... but didn't even lose the part of the mech it was in.

They haven't really said how this works; so we are all guessing based on experience.

I kind of wish they would put the sound effect for ammo cooking off back into the game. Nothing is more satisfying (or terrifying) than hearing the enemy's (or your) mech being shaken and torn apart by internal explosions.

There used to be a sound effect? Why would they take that out ;_;
