Forgive me if i'm posting this in the wrong section but I have a few questions:

1) How can I rename a design?

2) What are the plans regarding 'factions' for the game?

3) Supposedly Scouts gain xp from recon? How is this calculated? And is this bonus there for all classs?

4) Is a cc Stalker a good idea? I've been tinkering with the idea of putting solely medium lasers and srm6's in him. I presume this means i'd best beef up armor even more?
Any suggestions for a decent newbie brawler?

4 ML, 4 SRM6's + artemis, 10 Double Heatsinks, and i took that improved armortype too.

5) How can i map the weapons differently? I'd like to pair all my weapons of the same type together but i have no idea on how to do this.

Many thanks!

1. No
2. Unclear
3. You can't get much since LRMs are kind of rare now and ECM stops targeting quite a bit. The bonus comes from someone using your targeting info to hit with LRMs, anyone can get this no matter what mech or variant you are using. It is uncommon in 4-mans now, it is extinct in 8-mans.
4. Build a Cheezezilla (SRM Catapult) instead of a Stalker. Buy an Ilya Muromets at your earliest opportunity, it is simply the best all-around mech in the game right now, otherwise an Atlas D-DC is a great brawler.
5. Use the arrow keys to move the weapon selector around and then the key for toggling the weapons group (check your control setup).

1. You can only rename a design when you buy it. This may change later, but we arent sure when.
2. Details are still sketchy. Look in the Devs Blogs and roadmaps under announcements for all the information that has been released regarding the eventual implementation of Community Warfare.
3. You "recon" by hitting the R button and having your teammate fire on that unit. You receive a spot bonus that shows on your screen and is calculated at the end of the match rewarding you with xp and cbills
4. This is a pretty common build and is very effective as a brawler.
5. You use the arrows to select the weapons you want to group together and use the ctrl key to select or deselect them to group them. You can also chainfire that group by hitting backspace when the group is highlighted. I recommend using a 5 button mouse and grouping your weapons according to where they fire from (ie group all arm weapons)

Hope this helps

1) Mechs can only be renamed at time of purchase
2) http://mwomercs.com/...munity-warfare/
3) You can get xp from spotting enemies and for assisting with damage with TAG/Narc. This is unrestricted by chassis class.
4) It is a decent build but you have to get right in the enemy face to contribute. This usually isn't hard to do.
5) Using the arrow keys to select weapon/group and the right CTRL key to toggle on/off. This is done in game, not in mechlab.

Hope I helped!

4) Forget about Ferro Fibrous armor, they're only good on light mechs with plenty of slots available.

5) Arrow keys navigate through weapons, Right Ctrl key select/deselect weapons, Backspace key toggle group/chain fire modes.

;) :)

While there could be a better forum, this is fine for now. I will think about moving it later.

Currently not possible. You can name your mech once, when you buy it.

You gain scout xp by targeting mechs for friendly LRM mechs or by using TAG/Narc. This is as far as role warfare currently goes.

I had great success with those ML/SRM6 close range stalkers.

You could either read up on the controls here, you would learn almost all key functions for this games there, or you could try the courser and right control keys for now.

I don't know everything you are asking, but I'll give you a start.

1. Renaming is only done when you purchase a standard mech. The system will ask you for a name.
You can not rename Founders or Hero mechs.
2. Factions will become important when Community Warfare starts. Check the Developer Corner in the forums, lots of good info.
3. Targeting a mech that then takes damage from one of your teammates. Using TAG or NARC or just picking them as a target on your radar.
4. The choice of brawler is hard to determine for you. A Stalker is slower that a Hunchback brawler for example. It will depend on how you play it.
5. The weapon groups are set by the arrow keys and the right Ctrl.

My suggestion is that you read the Welcome, and Developers Corner forums. There is a lot of info there.

See you on the field.
Good Luck.

Been giving the build a try. Indeed and heatmanagement can be hard. I think I'll chuck in some more Heatsinks.
I mostly hang back a bit and when everyone is clashing I rush in to unleash my arsenal at short range.

All mlas and SRM Stalker can put out a ridiculous amount of damage.

You need map awareness and communication to be in the right place at the right time, since a Stalker can't turn or back up, but if you pick the right target and the right range you will murder things.

An ERLL or two LL tossed in makes you a bit more balanced instead of only short range.

Your choice of a Stalker with lasers + SRMs is a good one for a new pilot. It brawls well and can take a pounding. The stalker is pretty versatile too. You can LRM boat it if you want, or you can load up a few PPCs and be a sniper.

Unknown, PGI keeps it secret.

All classes can get "spotting" bonus - when you target someone with R and your teammate fires LRMs at that target, but there's no separate recon bonus.

Good idea in general, but drop artemis and FF armor, put 6 ML + 4 SRM6 on it, std 300 engine, and as many double heatsinks as you can (IIRC, you should get 22 total).

When in match, use arrow keys to move the weapon group selector around and right ctrl key (by default) to assign / unasign that weapon to that group.

What would be a good long range model. Type of mech that stays back and pounds away?
I got quite the classic battletech collection but far too few people to play with. So i always used the 'canon' builds.

Also for my brawler... I don't think 6Ml is possible. Maximum laser slots i found were four. I think.
Should I put in a lot of extra ammo besides the heatsinks or go for armor?

The Stalker 3F can hold 6 MLAS, two in each arm and one in each side torso. The 3F is the 'good' Stalker due to having a larger torso turn rate and more hardpoints than the 4N and 3H.

Don't use FF armor ever. If you MUST use an upgrade look at Endosteel, but DHS is often the better approach (hence it's higher price tag!)

LRMs can be powerful long-range weapons but are foiled by ECM. Try some Large Lasers or a pair of ERLargeLaser to supplement the medium lasers and SRMs.

sorry, you bought a lemon ;) I hope they make some improvements to the Stalker lineup, the 3H and 4N deserve some statistic buffs (turn rate, torso turn. etc etc) or extra module slots to make up for their truncated hardpoints.

In the future, have a good long look at the hardpoint layout for your future mech purchases. Trust me. http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

Smurfy even allows you to test-build any mech you want in the online mechlab.

Thanks for all the info guys! ;)

Currently I have 6 ML's, 4SRM6's. 1 ammo pack per SRM6.
Double heats sinks till I got 16. (can't seem to fit in more)

So in your opinion i'd better do 2 LL's and 4Ml's with 4 SRM6's?

And i presume for the rest I just bulk out armor?

-> what does the command console upgrade do?

Endosteel is ALWAYS better than FF Armor. On Assaults you are usually better off not using either to leave slots for lots of DHS.

Every mech should have DHS as soon as you can afford it. The engine bound heatsinks are so much more efficient that you always end up using so much weight that you can do better than SHS even with DHS taking 3 crit slots. Play with it in a mechbuilder like

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab

and you will see you can make any good SHS mech better using DHS.

Nope, it would run way too hot, it's hot enough as it is.

Nothing at the moment, it's just a placeholder for now.
