Seems to give same result neither you install them to engines extraslots, or outside them, it's always same Heat efficiency?

Pre-patch 1.2 was good HE, now it seems that even 1.3 is too little.

What's the real story behind them? All work 1.4 or even lower, but methlab reports higher numbers to calm down players and hide crappy code?

I lol'd very hard when i saw that.

Only thing that changed in the last patch is that now the Heat Efficiency display in the MECHlab is working properly. They didn't mess with the heat system at all as far as I am aware.

DHS's are 2.0 inside engine, 1.4 outside. I believe an HE of 2.0 is heat neutrality.

If one installs DHS to engines extraslots, they should work as 2.0. Now they seem to work 1.4.

They worked as 1.4 pre-patch as well. The extra slots are still considered out of the engine's core.

They're 1.4. Extra slots are considered outside the engine for whatever reason.

DHS is only marginally better than singles, especially if you're also running endo steel and don't have the crit space to stuff in more heatsinks. This has basically nerfed lasers to the point of making them worthless against lights. The beam time is too long and 2 streaks vs 4 medium lasers, streaks will just about always win due to their near-100% hit rate and much faster rate of fire. Please either shorten beam time on all lasers or bump up heat efficiency on DHS.

To help OP:

Engine DHS run at 2.0. So if you have less than 20 HS now, going to double will
help a lot.

HS outside the engine are 1.4.

So, if you have a 260 engine, it will have 10HS and then 4 outside.
If you go to DHS, THIS WILL REMOVE THE OUTSIDE SINGLE HEATSINKS!

This drove me crasy at the beginning, but the heat efficiency guage
takes into account stripping the single heat sinks...

But, those 14 heat sinks will become: 20 in engine and 5.6 outside for a total of 25.6.

Good luck!

the first 10 HS in a 250 rating engine and above are 2.0. All the rest you add are 1.4.

If you run a 245 engine, 9 DHS work as 2.0, the 10th you need to add will work at 1.4.

Don't think that adding 2 DHS within a 300 engine (taking advantage of the dual slot inside it) will make those two work 2.0.. they'll act as 1.4 as any other DHS you're going to add beyond the ones provided by the engine.

If you look at mechlab's values, they changed simply because now that value is correct. Before mechlab accounted ALL dhs (even those in the engine) as 1.4.
