I'm considering joining a team.
In order to do so I assume I need to get on team speak.
What is the your prefered form of communication?
Headset? Name brand and Model? Cost?
Thanks for your help.

First off welcome to the world of teams. The Royal Terra Guard is actively recruiting. Feel free to check us out at the link below.

Second, I use an old Triton Headset. If is a "gaming" headset, corded, and has indipendent mute and volume switches. You don't need anything super expensive. The 7.1 surround sound headsets may sound nice but this game isn't that sophisticated with sound yet. Besides, what good will surroung sound do you when you can't even see behind you?

Also, be careful when choosing a headset. Every gaming headset I've owned, regardless of manufacture, uses plastic for the headband. All of them have broken where the speaker meets the headband. I performed a field repair with plumbers epoxy to maximize thier life expectancies. It's a pain but I don't see any reason to throw out what are otherwise good speaker and headphones. Either way I wouldn't spend more the $70 if at all possible.

Sennheiser PC350 headset, cost was $180. The headset is a little dated now so you will be looking for the newer ones unless you can get your hands on the PC350's.

Logitech G35 headset. Costs around $100, but the 7.1 surround sound is worth it in my opinion. The headset does give you the option to switch it to two channel. It is wired with a braided cord covering, that works well for keeping pets out. Has two mute options, a button or just flip the boom up and it automatically mutes. A light on the boom tells you if you have it muted or not. Metal headband along with two points of articulation on the earphones prevent breakage while besides the standard adjustment three changeable headband pads give amazing comfort. Not good for voice activated though, the mic is really sensitive.

I am not an audiophile so I can't speak to music quality, but they do great for gaming, I wanted something comfortable and reasonable. I ended up with the Turtle Beach Ear Force X12 Gaming Headset. $47.99 on Amazon.

It is over the ear headset with mic that is extremely comfortable (I have played 12 hour marathons wearing them). It comes with a 12' cable (of which I only need about 3 feet), which could be useful if you sit far from your computer. It plugs into the standard audio in/out on your soundcard + USB for power.

The PC350 is incredible, though maybe not $180 incredible. I got mine half-off on an Amazon sale a few years back, and it's held up beautifully (aside from the faux-leather flaking off over time).

Other advice:

I suggest going to Newegg and finding one with a good rating that fits your budget. With voice communication, the mic is more important than the sound output. The speakers have to be really bad to impact your ability to hear your teammates, but a crappy mic will make you hard to understand to everyone else.

Logitech Wireless with mute. $40 at best buy. Sounds great and the only time I've had to take it off from getting uncomfortable was after a 10 hr Mech Fest. Also it says the battery lasts up to 6 hrs, but it didn't start to die till almost 8 hrs after a full charge.

I have been through countless sets of headsets, my current set are the corsair vengeance 2000 wireless. I have switched to wireless for the fact that many headsets have failed on me due to the wires getting brittle around the area they enter the headset itself. The best headset i have had for build quality are the razor blacksharks. They are stainless steel headband with stainless being used as the primary construction material. They connect to the head buckets using metal fastners to the plastic buckets. They failed due to the wiring, and that's the only reason that i have shelved them. If your looking at steel series headsets i can attest to their quality construction but complete lack of comfort.

I would recommend the current vengeance 2000 headset i have to anyone looking for a headset, at 140 the price is a bit high for the average end user. If your in the market for sub 100 dollar sets i have heard many good things about the creative headset lineup.

Logitech Clear Comfort USB headset. Cost me about 25 or so bucks. Cheap but effective.

I really never saw a need in spending more than 30 dollars on a headset.

Astro A50's for myself. One of the best headsets I've used. Blew most of them out of the water. Plus they are wireless which helps if you need to move around after or during a match. (Restroom or a snack) That way you can still hear and communicate with the action. However the only thing is they are somewhat pricey at 300 Dollars. Worth every cent though IMO.

Logitech G930 wireless 7.1 headset.

But, sadly, since they are 7.1 only, I'm getting some sound bug in MWO :)

Using the Creative Tactic3D Alpha, nice sound and work well. Not using the 3D dongle though, just plugged to my soundcard.
