They've already said that there is absolutely no chance of clan tech being MC only in one of the Ask-
A-Devs, and will be accessible for free like the current stuff.

Didn't they say that about 3rd-person a long while back and now they are considering it?

No purchasing clan tech with c-bills, only MC. Would PGI get rich quick or would MWO die a slow death?

I think there are a lot of players that would go ahead and shell out the cash to get an advantage like that.

Shell out cash to get an advantage = Pay to Win.

Maybe it could be über expensive to cram into IS chassis like upgrades are now. It could also have a failure chance like ultra ac if rigged into IS builds.

I'd be a bit annoyed, but if they balance team numbers so that it's not an advantage, then it isn't P2W, strictly speaking.

I'm thinking they might add a new set of pilot skills that allow using various types of clan tech before you can mount it/use it on an IS mech. That would cause grinding through 3 mechs again to open the slots on the pilot tree.

As far a Hero mechs go they have to do something to generate cash to keep the doors open. Hero mechs in themselves are really nothing special other than the extra cb generation and a different variant with a unique skin.

Interesting idea, so in addition to basic, elite, and master, there are several clan tech levels to go through.

No. Clans should be MC only.

It's one of the easiest ways to balance Clan tech. Clan tech is soooo worth it (so you pay for it). Otherwise you have to languish as a F2P inner Spehere player.

Makes perfect sense to me.

If they didn't they would eventually never have enought Inner spehere players to keep it up correctly.

IMHO.

So to you 'balance' means the people who pay the most should win? Sorry, but even as an evil 'gold' I find that a terrible idea.

It will not be MC only. But I suspect it will be ridiculously expensive in cbills, as well as MC... and I'll probably end up buying the ones I want.

I will justify it by pretending that I as a loyal Kuritan "salvaged" the whole mech from those evil clanners.... :D

If you don't understand why this idea is bad for the game, then please remove yourself from all discussions of economics, both real and virtual, from now on.

Lol, yeah let's ignore a collection of mechs that are much better known than most of the TT IS mechs.

Sounds pretty likely.

clan tech as MC only? Pay to win at its best possibly?

Allow that, and a portion of the player base, maybe a fair sized portion leaves. Doesn't sound like a good way to build a player base beyond people who are willing to pay to win.

For one proposal on this question, check out http://mwomercs.com/...tation-proposal (also linked in my signature).

I think the right answer involves allowing players to use MC to speed up acquisition of Clan games (and tech), but also allows us to get it with mere grinding.

Pay for convenience, not pay-to-win.

Many find a "Pay-to-win" scenario like that compleatly unexceptible. MechWarrior Online has done very good at avoiding a "Pay-to-win". It's appriciated by countless people.

As for myself. I wouldn't like it either. If they realy need the money, either do something creative that is not "Pay-to-win" or just ask for donations. I think the people that love this game would rather just donate the money and get nothing instead of "Pay-to-win" (Self included).

Clan mechs should be available for cbills and should be able to equip clan tech with cbills. IS mechs should be able to buy an upgrade with GXP to let them equip clan tech. The matchmaker should pit one clan star against two IS lances (5 vs 8).

Honestly I don't think we need 8vs5 to be balanced. 8vs5 is based on the TT assumption that 1) ALL Clan pilots were better than standard IS pilots and 2) that range was a much bigger deal than in MWO. If range was such a deciding factor then SRM Cats would not be considered the 'King of Mechs' as another thread coined it.

Yeah, the devs said somewhere they've already begun some extensive work on clan material. They didn't say more.
