ushering in an age when projectiles are rendered ineffective by laser defense systems. nations are forced to utilize melee weapons to conduct warfare.

the age of samurais are back

if MWO were realistic though we'd be able to shoot down LRMs with our lasers

Living in this new age means we could possibly need to develop large tough armoured combat platforms to fight with at more personal ranges. We should think of something that could fit the bill...

A 150Kw laser? That is unbelievably powerful. A one second beam of that could go through a building.

One of my friends worked on this from the systems program office out at Wright-Patterson AFB.

Note: The real laser is not visible. That's just silly.

Not when you factor in dispersal and loss of energy to atmospheric water vapor.

Actually you do see it. The laser creates a disruption in the water vapor of the air it slices through. I've seen an 80kw laser test and it looks like a ripple in the fabric of space (best way i can describe it... geek term!) that lasts a split second. Its VERY cool.

are you sure its this exact system? i can't imagine DARPA putting up misleading photos. they do have billion dollar contract, i'm not sure if heads would roll from misleading advertisement.

unless its to scare other nations perusing the website ofcourse. "OH CRAP U.S. INVENTED LIGHT SABERS, WHAT WILL WE DO.. it says right here on this website." - China

The bad part is I can completely visualise what you're talking about. Well, I guess we are all on a future space giant robot fighting game internet forum so not really that bad. Though you can't talk to regular people about lazors even if they're real.

We once built a remotely piloted aircraft which was shot down by a laser. Coolest thing I ever saw.

C-130 System Program Office. Anything that goes onto that aircraft must pass through this office. Every weapons platform (Jet or helicopter) has a System Program Office.

Noooo. We were just about to start talking about how to implement this within the game. Ya, aerial strafing runs with lasers.

Pfft.

Only Holtzman Field shield generators will be able to do that...

I think what can be said better is that we can make the lasers..it just won't come in nice pretty colors except possible green...and I'm not sure if it's because of the type of laseror that it's more possible for it to be more nergetic then say a red one..blue lasers probably don't come out as well since it would be more like likely to diffuse and will actually be harder to see the beam.
