Hello Community!

Lurker here. I just started playing and am looking for advice on what chassis to play next. My first mech was the DDC Atlas. I then got the D and RS. Loved them both and got elite (with Model D).

I use my DDC as an LRM Boat and a the RS as brawler. My D is sitting stripped.

Where would you recommend going from here? I am pretty heavily leaning towards another assault class and getting 1 step closer to unlocking Master.

My dilemma is I feel which ever Mech I go next, it wont be as effective as my current beast mechs.

What are your thoughts on a good next Assult Mech?

Thanks!

Well, if you enjoy a D-DC LRM boat, you can do the same thing (better in almost all respects) with a Stalker.

But I love the counter ECM. It's cheating imo, Stand on the highest point with free reign on them except in the rare case they have a tag. I use tag so their ECM doesn't matter.

Except for the ECM part.

Anywhere but my team :P

Seriously though, use a Stalker for an LRM boat. I hate seeing an Atlas in my team sitting at the back. And if you really like LRM boats you can get up to five launchers on the Stalker-5M (if you use the narc launcher).

I reserve a special place in h*ll for anyone who brings a 100ton mech to the fight, and they sits 500m behind the rest of his team the whole match.
At least a stalker mounts both more LRMs, as well as more close-defense weaponry.

I advice you to go for a Stalker. For the first buy - STK-5M I suppose. It has a reasonable price, double heatsink upgrade and a good set of hardpoints. And you can make him a brawler or an LRM boat or a PPC sniper - whatever you want.
Besides the 5M variant, there are 3F and 5S. 3F has more torso twist (which is good for brawling) and the 5S has 2 AMS hardpoints. The rest of the variants are simply worse than these 3.
In my opinion, Stalker is currently the best brawler ingame (except for the Raven 3L of course xD).

And you're in direct LOS and range of nearly every ballistic and the biggest energy weapons which aren't affected by ECM.

Catapults are the most versatile mechs in the game.

The 3H does come with two LRM20's, so it's the only Stalker which will fire LRM20's in one salvo. Not much i guess but it's something to consider if you want two launchers.

True I was being a tad facetious, though speaking...

I'm usually closer the front, I just keep some distance for the LRMs. It's very satisfy pounding some with both a Guass and LRM barrage.

Stalkers are the superior lrm boat. They can mount a tag, 4 lrm racks, and 4 medium lasers for back up close range versus the ddc which after mounting 3 lrm racks and a tag can only mount 1 laser for point defense versus fast movers. The atlas was born to brawl so let it brawl.

Wait until you try LRMs and 4 Large lasers to their face.

That's better.
I'm just tired of being outnumbered in the front lines by 2 atlases, and then spectating to see 2 LRM boat atlases 500m back, with no TAG, being useless while the rest of the team all dies. Just because there's one ECM light running around the brawl.

My current build. I love it.

EDIT: Not sure why by the weight is off in that link- when I saved it wasn't. Same idea though.

+Artemis
+All Missiles launched in two barrages, putting an LRM 15 on a 6 slot requires 3 cycles.

15s have better heat profile, stacking two types of launchers staggers the cooldowns, and Artemis is only good when you have direct visual and doesn't stack with TAG IIRC.
Also you're 2 tons lighter on ammo with the same number of tubes.

Just throwing this out here...

You are aware that to unlock master, you need to reach elite on three variants of the SAME chassis?

I would master the atlas chassis first, then move on to the next chassis.
