I may have been that cat.

Didja get clocked trying to run through the dropship on frozen city a few minutes ago, and was the cat grey and red?

Yeah, popping lights is pretty great fun.

The commando I refer to wasn't really being stupid though, everyone was already properly engaged in a brawl around the dropship. He just picked the wrong moment to weave through the ship.

It was a Death's Knell, too. I felt a little bad for the guy.

There are few things more liberating than going Commando.

Just started playing this game, I'm curios, how do you get light missiles on a catapult? Is it a preset mech or do you have to reconfigure it?

You got to buy your own mech. they are called "Streak SRM 2" And what your talking about it a steak cat. not a good idea considering ECM can stop your lock on.

I have the Cat set up with 2 LRM15's and 4 Med Lasers, I was just wondering how easy it would be to refit for a shorter range fit If I wanted to, I don't really understand how the fitting in this game works but I want to experiment with fits. Even a mass of SRM's would be fun at close range with lots of missile slots.

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/
Web mechlab interface to play around in.

There are 4 types of hardpoints:
Energy: mounts Lasers, PPCs, and TAG
Ballistic: mounts Autocannons (AC), Machine guns, and Gauss rifles
Missile: mounts Long Range Missiles (LRM), Short Range Missiles (SRM), and Streak Short Range Missiles (SSRM)
AMS: Mounts anti-missile systems

All non-energy weapons are ammo fed.

LRMs and SSRMs require lock-ons to be used on enemy mechs.
SRM and SSRM have a hard maximum range of 270m.
LRM have a minimum range of 180m and a maximum of 1000m.
Lasers have an effective range listed, and a maximum range of double that with a linear reduction in damage.
Ballistics have ranges like lasers, except they have a maximum range of 3x the effective.
PPCs have a minimum range of 90m.

For a shorter-range kittie you could drop the LRMs for a couple stacks of SRM6. Keep the medium lazors, they're one of the most reliable weapons in the entire game and will keep you viable at a range beyond SRM. SRMs only go out to 270m max.

Pulse lazors put a bit more damage on your target faster, but for more heat at less range with more weapon weight. Medium pulse are the most viable of the flavours, if you need your mech to deliver damage to a target area quickly, but if you don't need the speed then ML are your go-to lazor.

Thanks guys, been digging in the newbie section all day, there's a lot to learn in this game. Just graduated from WoT which feels like child's-play compared to this.

I played mech commander for years so love playing with big mechs, really hope they bring out the MadCat at some point though.

Steak advantage = Easy hits with homing missiles.

Streak Disadvantage = ECM can counter them. rendering them useless.

Its good to have back up weapons if you use Streaks or LRMs

One thing about ECM. If a mech has it its like a 180 degree bubble around that mech. if a friendly mech has it and your in it, you are invisible to the enemy sensors and they cant lock on you with missiles. HOWEVER the same goes for you if you get in ENEMY ECM. You cant target or lock on...

ECM also fights Enemy ECM. making the 2 cancel each other out.

Timber Wolf shall be coming out in the next few months with the Clan Invasion. I've been playing this for months, and I'm just waiting for the Atlas with Jump Jets.

And if your using LRMs remember they can't hurt an opponent UNDER 200 meters from you. Only does damage if they are MORE than 200 meters away.

close range c1 should have 4xMP and 2x streak or 2x srm6.
cause you need all the critical slots armor and structure upgrades are not worth it with this mech.
I use the srm6's with 2 tonnes of ammo, when you use the srm's during times when you know they will hit.
2 tonnes is plenty, most of your damage comes from the Mp's and don't forget your 4 JJ's

180m. That extra 20m can make a difference.
