Nothing double about double heat sinks...

2.0 on the Heat Capacity that DHS' adds to your mech vs 1.0 on SHS.

Clearly this is a balancing feature to keep the game from becoming Posted Image

Otherwise this would be an OP feature and move this game closer to a "Have vs Have-Nots" on DHS game like ECM is today.

Pretty new here too and getting enough cash to DHS some frames. I bought 2- XL & STD engines to play with and swap them out on builds instead of flipping mechs so quick. Want to understand the mechanics.

So swapping out an engine from DHS to SHS or versa, maditory up/downgrade to do it with engine only? Sounds like a must do but not sure.

double heatsinks is a chassis upgrade, you can still swap out the engines and they'll magically turn to double heatsinks.

Thanks. You comedy king you. I realize down in the weeds question and depended on where they assigned them I guess primary. MWO seems moderate on the nickle and diming is what made me wonder. New to Mech online and online games too. Die hard single player.
Going doubles now. Thank you.

Double heatsinks is always better than single heatsinks. The engine heatsinks are at 2.0 and, currently, for any mech at the moment, double heatsinks will always give you equal or more heat efficiency for the same or more number of single heatsinks. Math proves it.

I've found doubles not really worth it most of the time. A must have on lights. If I have slots to fill i use weapons not DHS which take 3 slots and can't be used where my weapons aren't, head, legs......

Doubles made a huge difference. Added a LLaser with the savings on an energy Heavy. Ended up with more cooling. Thanks all. Makes me want to do on all, even the temp skill tree throw aways.

I can't think of a build that wouldn't benefit from DHS off the top of my head, but it would be a build where critical slots were a premium, maybe if you had a mech with Endo, Ferro, and an XL. So I can imagine that there could be a few light mech builds that would not be able to use DHS...I'm just speculating, ever since DHS dropped I've never went back to singles.

Even with this build you would want doubles because of the engine. The fact you get double the number of HS in your engine makes doubles worth the purchase in every build except maybe a gauss cat or something that doesn't even need the HS it started with.

This build is better with singles, it's a raven 4x with an AC20

3x ssrm commando 2D is better with singles as well, allows for an xl195, ecm, endo and ferro. impossible with doubles because of the space required.

everything with a bigger engine is better off with doubles.

It seems impossible to me that SHS are better for this mech. With a 250 engine, that is 20 engine heat sinks alone. That saves you 10 TONNES of weight over SHS for the same heat capacity. That is two large lasers. I can see skipping endo for space (2 tonnes), but not double heat sinks.

If you're just gonna run some medium lasers, fine...I guess. But DHS would allow a straight upgrade to superior large lasers, giving you more range for the same damage, or more damage for the same weight.

For example:
My Hunchback - 4P Is running with singles, because I'm not sure if the DHS efficiency boost can overcome the crit space, I also lose the crit space on the legs and torso because I have absolutely nothing to put in them.

Its also not a good build. I would never recommend anyone to use it.

Unless I missed something, I believe you are mistaken.

FF is just not that good of an upgrade.
