The PPC/ERPPC vs ECM
  • Hitting an ECM enabled Mech with a PPC/ERPPC will disable the ECM functionality for 5 seconds.
  • After 5 seconds, full ECM functionality returns.
  • If an ECM is disabled and the ECM enabled Mech is hit with a PPC/ERPPC again, the 5 second counter resets to 5. It will be possible for a very skilled PPC/ERPPC shooter to disable ECM on a Mech for as long as they can keep chain hitting the ECM Mech.
  • This will be going live on Feb 19th.
The modules "Sensor Range" and "Advanced Sensor Range"
  • Will now affect ECM by increasing the detectable/targetable range of an ECM equipped Mech.
  • "Sensor Range", the first tier, will allow players to detect/target an ECM equipped Mech 15% further away than normal (200m > 230m)
  • "Advance Sensor Range", the second tier, will allow players to detect/target an ECM equipped Mech 25% further away than normal (200m > 250m)

To those that outcry that ECM has destroyed the game, and that the Dev's don't listen, I submit this: Neener-neener.

I assert that instead of just addressing the root cause of the problem these are just hacks on a broken system. It's a bone for PPC users (I'm one) but it doesn't address ECM as an issue, it just makes PPCs more required.

What's next? ERLL stops streak missiles? LBX10 blocks LRM?

If I'm not mistaken, you can already shoot missiles out of the sky if you're good enough.

In any case, the implications of EMP to the ECM system will be a potential game changer.

*IF* the PPC's EMP effect is not limited by range, a decent shooter could nullify an ECM covered lance from across the map.

god i hope you aren't seriously quoting me. i threw that out as a joke once on a thread about shooting down missiles.

i am fairly certain conventional weapons don't hit missiles.

this has proven to be an effective tactic in the past. they used ECM to almost eliminate streak boating.

i will have to see how this plays out, but overall i think a little more needs to be done with ECM or LRM (not sure what).

I don't think we can do this in the game. But, with how slow missiles travel. Many of us can realisticly hit them if they would let us.

I'm sure they have more in mind. Just have to wait and see.

I've posted elsewhere so I'll keep it brief, but my thought is that if this is a dev response to the ECM problem then they need new jobs because this is at most a drip of a pain reliever applied to a gaping wound.

I think it's great, and I'm looking forward to the changes. Now maybe take it a wee bit further and have BAP also stack on top of the module buffs.

So Adv Sensor + BAP = 150% affected range * 200m = 300m

And anyone saying BAP is still useless (not necessarily in this thread)....you are seeing a LOT of shutdown mechs this last patch...and you can't target them or know they are friend or foe while they are...guess which piece of equipment will let you do both? BAP.

Wonder, if we can come up with something for NARC to do on top of this without canceling ECM compleatly. That way, all Electronic Warfare items counter each other.
