There have been a few of these but mostly from a negative slant. I want to have a more positive discussion about what aspects of the game keep you guys engaged whether it's parts of the community or something newly introduced.
What exactly is it about MWO either in its current state or looking forward that keeps most of you still involved in the game?

I'll start:
1.
For me its been rather surprising when I realized it but it's the communities on team speak. Rolling with Ars and Comstar has been a blast, there are a lot of cool people to hang out with and it creates a more challenging/enjoyable atmosphere. I find it odd at the same time that something not specifically built into the game (like a feature or a new map, or mech) is right now my primary reason for still being active with MWO. Just now I finished rolling with a 4 man group sporting 3 spders and a raven. We ran circles around the other teams and won most of our matches. It was hilarious and fun and one of the most relaxing sessions I've played in a while.
2.
Also the state of the game, every patch something changes and gets better (or not as good) and it creates a new dynamic to the game (even if temporary). Because of ECM I added the DDC to my line up of Atlases and I've been really enjoying it. As an Atlas pilot the addition of stalkers has also given me a new adversary to watch out for on the battlefield. The game is constantly evolving and the fact taht its beta means theres always something new to look forward to.

Cheers

I'm a newb still. I have lots to learn and haven't been around since closed beta like many of y'all. I love mechwarrior and this game so far is a great addition to the franchise. I'll keep trying to get better because whether or not i'm a noob remains to be seen. Lil embarrassed to admit getting circled by Ravens in my Cent makes me look kind of stupid :P

I plan to stick around I have done other MMOs before. The thing I like about MWO despite there being few maps is matches are pretty quick. I ran DDO for years and it got to the point I might as well not even log in unless I had 3-4 hours to kill. MWO is quick and ruthless and I love every min so far. Even when I get caught up in the moment and wander into an ambush <_<

I want to see whats over the horizon for MWO too. CW sounds great. I cant wait to be part of it. I'd really like to see maps evolve some too. It would be neat to see gates, walls, and turrets get added to bases. The possibilities are worth looking forward to.

1. Progress
There is a sense of progress with each patch the developer release.
Although sometime there are new bug introduce with these patch, but this is pretty much part and parcel of the MMOG experience. Also the patch doesn't fixed everyone's pet peeve, but tweaks are done to the game that "feel" right.

2. Enjoyment
Occasionally killing other mech with wonky build is very satisfying comparing from scoring kills in popular build.
Currently playing around with a AC20 + LLas hunchback, surprisingly good at coring unwary mech. But gets eaten alive by brawler.

*put on hipster glasses*
Had the Bug-Zapper hunchback before NGNG.
But running a standard 230 engine instead of an XL, plus 1 extra MLas and wee bit less armour.

I really like my Battletech, and MechWarrior games have always been the right paced shooting for me. While there are lot of things far from perfect here, it is still fun game and slowly improving to be better.

Easily my favorite game at the moment, even with it's bugs, balance issues and lack of content. But I played MW4 for 10 years, I might not be the most demanding customer either...

Hope.... Faith... Belief...

I hoped for a mechwarrior game that would pit us against each other in a world of big stompy robots... when MPBT went under I played both MW4 and LL for days on end.

I have some faith in PGI even with their lackluster dev history and horrible antics

but it's in my belief if PGI will actually stop and listen to the community, let them participate and create content, and let the community actually be a community, then both playerbase and company will thrive.

Valve's TeamFortress 2 did it in 2010-11 (methinks) after going F2P and letting the community pitch in, and they've been rolling in money since...

why?

because they let us choose.

It's fun...and currently and hopefully never, no moron 3rd person or respawn (No I don't consider dropping with your 4 ready mechs as "respawn").

What keeps me playing...

Well you see i have a list of games i like to see made. For a very long time a new multi-player MechWarrior game was on that list So with MWO i can cross one game off that list. Now it is not perfect but i think it is one of the better "mech-sims" out there and i see a lot of potential in it.

I think what nearly all of you keeps playing is the reason that you have paid for it.

I've paid for other games and not played them near as much as MWO.

Because the game is fun? Do I need a reason other than that?
