If you are grinding that means you probably aren't having fun. Do you really need some artificial cheese goals to work for? Can't you just play the game and enjoy without playing the part of a rat looking for cheese? Maybe we should have to kill 5000 orcs for a medium laser to make these rats happy?
I know, it may sound obserd. But, some people enjoy "Chasing the Carrot on a stick". It gives them a constant sence of progress.
I play just because I enjoy playing the game. I don't need a grind to feel like I am making progress. I prefer, becoming the best player I can be at a game, to be a long term goal. It's the reason I continue to play First Person Shooters and Fighting games after everything is unlocked.

Working towards a long term goal. How about, raising your stats by getting better at the game.
