premades belong with premade...pugs with pugs...i completely understand wanting to play with ur friends and clanmates...but pugstomping depletes a perishable resource...the pug players who make up the majority of the player base of any successful online game
WoT (hate to bring them into this as i despise their game) does a fairly decent comprimise of allowing only 2 players to be grouped...but in mwo even two grouped players will over balance a team imho
right now what im seeing is sync drops (complete exploit and very destructive since 8man is all ready accomodated elsewhere)...and for some reason the game engine likes to put premades on the same side...i almost always run in a 4man premade and i am amazed at the amount of times that my side will pick up another 4man while the other team is 8pugs...
solutions:
if u must allow pugs/premades to mix together then ensure both sides have an equal amount of both...and for gods sake limit the premades to a max of 1 lance per side (4players)...
or
increase the monetary and exp rewards in 8mans by 5% to give incentive to have players use that mechanic
or
have a wait time after queing to dropping of say between 5-15sec while the game engine scrambles premades to ensure minimal sync dropping...i would wait 30sec longer to get a match if i was confident no sync drops would occur
and
mark premade grouped players in the list to people can tab and see what they are getting into...a lot can be done if u know u are facing 8grouped players with only 4grouped and 4pugs...
and
implement actual in-game voice so cordination can happen in real time and not by typing

Yeah... I dont see why anyone is against respawns. Because it would be an optional gamemode. If you dont want respawns you dont have to play in a respawn game. But a respawn gamemode would definitely help casual and new players get into the game without feeling completely useless to their team.
Game modes should be as follows:
Conquest + No Respawn
Conquest + Respawn
Assault + No Respawn
Deathmatch + Respawn (basically Assault but without bases, since you dont need bases if theres respawns)
And when queuing up for matches you should be able to exclude whatever gamemodes you dont want to play. Don't like respawns? fine just exclude them... and respawns being in the game won't affect you.

Funny you mention a game as an alternative (Hawken) which has the exact same issues MWO has. Hawken has no match maker other than randomly tossing people onto a server like MWO. This just goes to show the problem is mostly perception, not reality. If you go check the Hawken forums one of the most frequent topics over there is the match maker!

The OP is a member of one of the biggest Merc units in our timezone...
Just to give you an idea of our size -- we have 425 registered users in our internal forums -AFTER- we culled off inactives...
The OP and ME are PREMADES that have become TIRED of the 4-man EZ SNOOZE mode that has become this game... We don't catch as much 8-man games as we would like - so we PUG.
We PUG because at least it makes it INTERESTING to play.
While PUGging, we have realized that the game is NOT FUN for new players.
Among other issues, 4-man farming lances are the reason why it is not FUN to PUG.
Before JUMPING to conclusions that I can't play PUGs... check out these pure direct fire / joystick played screenie played in SOLO..
WE KNOW HOW TO PLAY... quite OK in fact...
I KNOW EEEEELOOOOW IS COMING!
But in the current state of play ONLY PUGSTOMPERS will rabidly defend their divine right to STOMP!

Respawns totally swing mech design. When you respawn you find mechs that carry ammo reliant weaponry (like Gauss Rifles) that do a good deal of damage but lack ammo (like Gauss Rifles) become very powerful. If they can get 2-3 kill before they run out of ammo and die themselves they swing the game. Meanwhile builds that maintain DPS and longevity find themselves smashed by Alpha strike and ammo reliant mechs that simply hit hard, die taking 2 with them, then respawn.
At that point it doesn't matter that you can wear down an Atlas in a Jenner because he will be right back again with full ammo and 0 heat able to chew up your teammates. It basically makes ammo unimportant.

You realized the game is not fun for new players ? Your NOT new players. So how exactly can you even suggest that its not fun for them ? Dropping solo is not a new player experience. Unless you just started this game and are still in cadet bonus, not to mention the excitement of this being a brand new game to try out, you can't speak for new players. Lets have them speak for themselves, thanks.

Uh, uh... I am not going to let you swing that fallacy around like it is a valid argument.
Quote
Person B asserts that A makes claim X because it is in A's interest to claim X.
Therefore claim X is false.
Look familiar? That is an invalid argument as me having an interest in the outcome does not preclude me having a true claim. I don't 4 man to pugstomp. I 4 man to hang out with 3 friends. We don't bring "Optimized" builds although we sometimes compliment each other in that if my friend wants to run one of his LRM Cats others of us will bring TAG or I'll jump in my mech with TAG and ECM.
I still think a lot of the premade hate is because some people need to blame their loss on something other than "We did the wrong thing." They see the other team doing things in a semi-coordinated way and go, "See! They are a premade." Just look in this thread where people post that they can tell a premade because it has some things that are common even in PUGs like multiple ECM mechs.

Yes, the game is lacking proper training; you're not the only one who has to deal with that; we all have, and have pushed on in spite of it. That being said, anyone who has put in their sweat in this game and still thinks that teamwork is unfair would do the community a solid by playing any other game that doesn't require teamwork for success, and maybe leave this one to be unique in that matter.

they are 'social' enough to find 3-players, but not 'social' enough to play 8s...
WHY? Because PUGstomping is fun and profitable

I am just glad we can all play safer now knowing the "BoogerMan" is just the myth I have been reading about all this time.
lol and I do suck at piloting 50% of the time I know Have the .70 kd to prove it

Any game worth actually playing and becoming good at had better have a hefty Learning curve, otherwise one could just play Bingo.
Anyways, best thing is to read up, tinker in the Web based Mech lab(s) to get a sense of how that works, and what you will face when you hit the real time, in your Trial Mech. If you have access to this Forum, you also have access to a large plethora of MWO related data and info.
If one does not avail one self of said plethora, and then complains that they played but didn't know about Thermal mode or how to set up a weapons group etc etc etc... (ad nausea) and then comes here ******* about how difficult the game is, then it is on them and any pity spent on them, if any, will be minimal.
You wanted to be a MechWarrior, then grow a pair and spend more time learning how and less time whining about your own deficiencies (wrapped in a lie about how bad the game is).

I don't give a rats behind how big your corp is. These posts are pure poison for a small fan base as is. I drop PUG & Premade. My end score does not change very much for both. Losses are more but that's to be expected BECAUSE I'M DROPPING ALONE. The net code was fixed THAT IS WHY some players got better and some got worse. No stop the endless wailing like old women.

It's a team-based game, its pointless to call for nerfs to using teamwork.
They took away large groups, and people still complain about premades. They could completely remove grouping, and people will still complain about focus fire, or hax-made groups.
what I'd really love to see is a return of the original matchmaking system (No group size limits, but weightclass matching or some other mech balancing mechanic) with an option to drop into a 'casual/pick up' queue instead. My feeling is that there are enough pre-made and 'good' pugs to keep that queue populated and not run into match making problems while offering an outlet for the casual/new player to learn without getting obliterated every single match
