Fang, Hero variant. It's a good 'mech, despite those who would like to contend otherwise. I, for one, prefer my ballistic in my arm-slot as it gives my largest weapon the most widest angles of attack.

1x Gauss
3x MLas
1x SRM6
XL300

It does basically 90kph with speed tweak, can alpha 45 damage, and can even snipe (for awhile) if needed.

aside from the Cbill bonus what does this mech bring to the table?, my dragon runs a bigger engine (xl350) AND an extra medium laser. what did you sink the extra tonnage into? the difference beteen an xl 300 and an xl 350 is 3.5 tons, adding the medium laser makes it 4.5 tons lighter...
did you just run 4 extra heat sinks or something?

Big damage at close range, destroy any atlas in 3 alpha in the center torso, fear nothing except splatcats.
(avoid areas without coverage)

I play dragons almost exclusively and have tried tons of variants and builds. The 1N with 2x SRM 4s + LB10X and a few lasers is a tough build to beat for up close, though I rarely play it as I like C-Bills from my Fang/Flame.

Flame:
4MLas
1Guass
360 XL
-I have tried so many variations but this one just seems to preform so much better than others.

2LPL + 2MPL XL 340/350 (cant remember off the top of my head engine size)
Great for light hunting and good cooling but it can run hot in long brawls. Also great at targeting damaged parts.

10 AC
SRM4
4 MLasers
A bit higher alpha than the others mentioned and does a solid job and you dont have to worry about the 10 AC blowing up in your shoulder. That said, the 10AC is harder to hit with as the projectile moves slower takes some good practice. Nor does it have the killing power of the Gauss Rifle. The extra 5 dmg really seems to make a difference from the Gauss. However, the 10AC recharges faster which is nice.

Fang
I do run the 10AC rather than the Gauss on the Fang for several reasons. The exposed arm makes the Gauss prone to damage and it can get knocked out fast, while I find the 10AC to have much better survivability. To make up for the less hitting power of the 10AC I combine it with more direct fire weaponry. I use this mech for peeling off pieces.

-Low Alpha but works well in my experience, sometimes I substitute in an LB10X for light hunting. You can also drop the LPL and add an SRM4 + a third MPL.
10AC
1LPL
2MPL
340/350XL

Kill/Death Ratio
Interestingly despite often running near identical builds in my Fang/Flame I have nearly a double kill to death ratio in my Flame while 50/50 in my fang. Very strange, my only conclusion is that Flame layout seems to land me significantly more kills. My assumption is that the center torso mounted Gauss or AC10 aligns with lasers dealing killing blows, while the fang allows for arm mounted 10AC shots at weird angles it does not promote as many kills sense the arm mounted ballistic does not align quite as well as it does in the flame. This slight offset between lasers and ballistics cuts kills in half though damage is very similar if not a bit higher in my fang sense I can fire from crazy angles.

Win/loss Rate
My Win ratio is also significantly higher in my Flame, probably for the above reasons.

Dragon is the only variant that I have unlocked the elite tier for. I have to say th at Cromwill's above 4xML 1xGauss Flame build is very close to my favourite and deffinately my most effective. However I only run a XL340 motor (stolen from a Pretty Baby) which is good for 101kph with speed unlock but the weapon load out is the same. I expect I am carrying another heat sink or different armour config.

I do have a fun 5N build I muck around with that can often perform well particularly against the light 'run around in circles' guys.

DRN-5N
XL300
DHS
Endo Steel
STD Armour
3xMG (2T ammo)
1xSRM6 (1T Ammo)
2xLPL

-I don’t often break 500 damage with this build but as I play with about 250 ping usually I find this build helps lag compensate. I usually hang around the assaults with this as defense against lights or extra brawling damage.

My actual favorite build (funniest to play)
Drg 5 n
2 erppc or 2 lpl (depends of the mood)
Srm6 1ton
3mg 1 ton
Rest dhs
Xl350
Dhs
Endo

Its funny..lots of fun! the main attraction is to blow internals components..the dakka dakka. The only thing it lack is another energy slot to make the symphony perfect with an additional mpl.

On a side note we have some awesome dragon pilots in the house. .and some who aren't (in occurrence me) and usually when the enemy encounter both.. they laugh while reaping me until they dies to the top Gunner

Pretty much works with any variant.
1 Gauss rifle
2 Large lasers

My first match with it I got 1050 damage, 2 kills and 3 assists I think. I've tried every possible build I could think of with dragons and I like this one the best. Simple and effective.

Most successful builds with the 1C are:
Upgrades
300XL, ES, FF, DHS
Weapons
4xLL

OR

Same Upgades with:
4xML
Guass Rifle with 4t

About the same as what I run, though I use a 350XL with 55/57 armour on the LT/RT and 35 each on the legs (none of which really get shot anyway). The extra engine HS slot still lets you get up to 15 DHS with ES and FF and you move ever so slightly faster. Using anything less than the 350XL means you have to give up FF for the crit space to be able to fit the 15th DHS. Otherwise you end up having to drop down to a 300-325XL to make up the tonnage. Obviously the smaller the engine, the more DHS you can fit, so there's a sweet spot in there based on your ability to manage heat.

As an asside, I find if you're going to run a pure laser-Flame you do well by aligning more amour forward since you've got to keep your lasers on point more than with a gauss build.
