Minor detail, but when I heard Betty tell some guy I was spectating that his Gauss rifle was destroyed, I think she pronounced it "Goss" as if it rhymed with moss. That's wrong. Gauss rhymes with house and mouse. It's a guy's name, and it's everywhere in math and physics. There's a common thing in statistics you've probably heard of called a Gaussian curve. Magnetic fields are measured in units of Gauss, etc. And those things pronounce "Gauss" like "house" because that's the way the guys name was pronounced.

Anyway, I'm thinking Betty's pronunciation is baked and won't be changed, but just FYI. She sounds like an imbecile when she says it. Sorry.

here's one for the imbeciles among us. The difference between being 'correct' and being 'right'.

It's a respect issue. This gentleman made it his life's work to define these things, and thus, they are named after him. If you wish to refer to it, you should refer to it correctly, using the proper pronunciation.

Agreed.

Also it's worth noting that "Goss" rifle sounds like we're shooting cotton swabs at each other.

FEAR MY BANDAGES!

Oh, and "german mwo mathematicians" is going to be the name of my future Falco cover band.

So we're complaining over the lack of a double S now? (which it already has spelled out ingame)

It's amazing what people complain about after they've complained about everything significant to complain about.

If you pronounce gauze the way that people "incorrectly" pronounce gauss then you're also doing it wrong, so throw that reason out the window. Welcome to accents and localizations people, words are pronounced in different ways all over the world. The "wrong" way to say gauss is more easily rolled of the tongue, and commonly used, deal with it :)

'ss' instead of 'ß' is correct if you are on a font which does not have the letter 'ß' or if it is all caps. Just as 'oe' instead of 'ö'. But yes, the guys name is pronounced as in mouse with a sharp s. ;)

Maybe in 3050 the language change a bit over a thousand years of space exploration, space colonists wasn't the smartest of the bunch.

Think in 3050 House is like moss and moss is like house ;)

Yeah, in the game it's always been Goss rifle. . . that's what happens when you publish a set of tabletop rules for a bunch of American gamers without a pronunciation guide. Don't forget we're the country that calls the basketball team the Sell-ticks.

I like the 'Capellan pronunciation' idea. lol

Uh..this is ridiculous.

In canon, there are many languages and different pronunciations (or different words entirely) for weapons and indeed everything! I can appreciate respecting the inventor's name but, I can almost guarantee you, people in BT would use their language's version of it. So, some of you think PGI should actually change this? lol
