let's take river city then, the lamp posts are about 4-5 meters in the real world. at least the ones that light the street. (not the telephone poles which are a bit taller)

if an atlas is at least 3 times it's height (yup, around that height in MWO)
then the scale of the atlas is 15 meters point something.

i think it's the buildings themselves that are off, but before you start talking about how many stories etc in frozen city, remember there is another higher building in frozen city, outside of the cave. that one is like 5 atlas in height... and the
glass between each floor is only slightly more roomy than usual (a real life building)

Ok, so made a similar post about this a long while ago.

I would say the opposite of the OP. These mechs are too big for their weight. For its size in game, an atlas looks like it should be 200 tons at minimum (call it in at 150 for advance materials). A Modern tank wheighs 70 to 80 tons, these mechs look big enough to literally stomp and crush a tank. I find that to be far more immersion breaking than the off feel of building sizes.

I support both threads of this argument. The mechs relative to each other and their environment seem flaky, particularly the trees in Forest Colony.

And if an Atlas is 50 to 60 feet tall, it must be quite hollow compared to an Abrams MBT.

Which in no way means I'd rather drive a tank. If Steampunks can have the 1880's why can't the Mechwarriors claim the 1980's?

The worst thing to me is that mech scaling is so inconsistent, often ignoring mass to volume ratios. This is most striking for the light mechs, which should all be bigger relative to medium and above mechs.

The easiest example is a Commando, which is half the tonnage of a Huncbhack and yet only half as big in every dimension -- that's just plain wrong! It should be ~80% as big in every dimension.

Worse, compare it to a Centurion.

You are comparing size of mechs to the building on the snow level? You do know that the buildings are covered in snow right? They are normally a lot taller? Lets get a real city level then we'll talk.

A five story building with snow covering the third floor, with a mech walking at the level of the snow, is still equal to a two story building with no snow at all.

and a nearly 53 foot atlas is supposed to hide behind that how??

Inconsistencies.....

Also, if anyone has noticed the crashed airplane... an 747 is about 60 feet tall at the top of it's tail with landing gear down on the runway so lets say more like 50 without since the tail piece is kind of unimportant here. The interior cabin space is less than 30 feet...

Interesting note about the dropship is that it has mechs in it. The scale is completely off as dev's confirmed it's a gazelle class dropship and they cannot carry mechs in them at all, as they are too small.

The Cicada needs to be about 15% smaller as well. It only weighs 5 tons more than a Jenner or Raven, yet is considerably larger than both. It's also almost as tall as a hunchback, which is 10 tons heavier.

Spider also seems a bit small. It's as short as a commando, but much skinnier from the front.

It will be interesting to note the size of a common place Overlord dropship compared to the environment and to the mechs, considering it carries 36 mechs in addition to other equipment and vehicles. (thats if dropships will physically be included into the future maps or game modes)

For me it doesn't look like mechs are big, but rather that everything else is small. And there's definitely something wrong with the scale.

which would be...30 ft?

Are the mechs out of "canon" scale? Certainly. None should be over 14 meters according the Catalyst, who currently owns the IP. And yes, some in mech models are definitely out of scale.

actually, to be quite accurate, all of the other mechs should be smaller. The Jenner is actually probably closest to correct size for tonnage. Go pull up a 35 ton tank or piece of earth moving equipment.. they are actually pretty small. A 20 meter Atlas would be many times over 100 tons.

I don't really care about in relation to the environment.

But the Cent & Dragon are too big, and the Stalker is too small.

hahahaha. Dude dude. it doesn't change the fact that only two stories is enough to allow an atlas to take cover. Scale is completely ****** in this game.
it doesn't matter if the building is under 1 billion feet of snow. only two stories are exposed which should average out between 25-30 foot poking up

Edit: Although the devs may have a convient excuse! maybe all humans in MWO are actually between 3 and 4 meters tall. Then the buildings jump to about 50-60 feet and suddenly the scale is okay in the environment. Still doesn't explain why some of the mediums are as large as assaults.

I'd love to see the Cent and Awesome get a bit of a size reduction. The Stalker would look a bit better if it was bigger.

Oh noes, an aerodyne dropship designed to hold mechs does indeed hold mechs?!

Someone alert the press.

whats more amusing is that said drop ship can only barely house a few mechs. I don't know about you but it seems a little tiny for what it is supposed to represent (the drop ship on frozen city)

aha.

even worse then. There is no way that ship in frozen city has a 60m by 12m cargo bay.

Except he's wrong... The River City dropship is confirmed to be a Gazelle

The Frozen City dropship is confirmed to be a Leopard.

but that makes no sense.

There is no way the frozen city drop ship is as wide as it is long. Look at the sarna image.

Either way you crack it the perspective is horribly off.

edit:

Length 66 meters
Width 51.6 meters
Height 22.4 meters

Seriously.

Even if you accept that the thing is side down. Why is the wingspan at the back flat to the floor instead of one fin pointing into the air and the other being missing?

There is no way that is a leopard, if it's meant to be they've done a horrible job of making it.
