Actually ECM is probably the main reason why the Catapult is not used for its original purpose.
The role of the Catapult has always been the Support LRM boat. Fire for effect. With ECM most Catapults cannot fire without TAG or someone spotting. We as Cat pilots have to constantly reposition even without taking a shot.
The totally frustrating that is having multiple ECM on the enemy team and watching my tag do almost nothing to help my lock ons. It is frustrating to have to dumb fire missiles when I waste 3 tons of ammo on lockons that will fail. Whats this? A mech out in the open and my missiles are heading towards him? Suddenly ECM light sweeps by I lose lock, missiles splash behind the mech who proceeds to kill me.

Actually, you know the other thing I hate about ECM? Having to use thermal vision all the time to detect enemies at range. There are already two maps that force me to use Ugly Vision for 90% of the time, and because the colours are so washed out on Forest Colony, I'll usually have to use it there too. And then ECM forces me to ignore the nice graphics even more, and play with a blue screen shooting orange blobs.

^ Okay, that I think is actually cool. But I am switching it on and off a lot during the match, unless I am playing in River City Night.
Matter of preferences, I think. But surely Heat Vision has to be good for something! In essence, you really only need it until you have spotted the enemy.
