Coming from previous MW games, my favorite environments of the ones listed are:
Icy Moon
Badlands
Green Valley
Marshes
Jungle Outpost
Asteroid Base
Ancient City
Castle Mountain
All of those would make fun maps. Thanks for putting this together.
For reference, here's just a sample of the maps we had to play with in MW4 Mercenaries: http://www.netbattle...map/terrain.php
Note the variety of environments and the sheer number of them. That's what I hope to see in MWO at some point.
Edit: Here's another list that overlaps somewhat with the first: http://www.astral-do...om/missions.htm

- Deep Cavern (possibly combined with "Mining Colony" concept by having the caverns be mines for some sort of magnetic ore that would interfere with the (still planned?) MagScan sensors)
- Red Planet (could be modified by being a "hot Mars" rather than a kinda-cold one)
- Metropolis (because more urban maps are needed)
- Marshes (possibly combined with the "Jungle Outpost" concept, could be made hot and foggy to interfere with visual and thermal detection as well as Heat Sink efficiency)
- Redwood Forest (lots of obstacles and obstructions, and the perfect environment for something like a Firestarter...)
awesome ideas to combine marsh and jungle, redwood is also my favorite by far.
(nevermind, i missed the fact this was for another franchise of sci fi)

My picks: Badlands (good for long range combat and intense canyon chases), Castle Mountain (for the feudal theme of the setting), Green Valley (not enough "green" in MWO right now), Jungle Outpost (just looks great), Metropolis (I love River City's "urban combat" theme)
Aerospace Hangar might be interesting, but I feel as if it would look poor if the vehicles and equipment there would just soak all damage instead of exploding. Likewise, all those "space" maps with low/no gravity and atmosphere might necessitate some new FX to make them look good, not to mention changes to the physics system.
Oh, and those were very nice images!

Lots of interesting areas and can be made from it. From radio active storage bunkers, factory like installations, sorting containers, all kinds of diggers and dumptrucks, and the tipping grounds.
Dunno why anyone would fight over it though

a bit like river city just more
but any type of landscape could be used to this type of use.
edit
but it would also be awesome to have a desert map with sink holes
that heavier mechs could get stuck in, while a lighter mech would have no problem passing.
What sort of "sink hole" wouldn't swallow a 25 ton mech? While the weight discrepancies appear vast, if the ground is solid enough for a 25 ton mech, it's solid enough for a 100 ton mech.

So voted:
1. Badlands
2. Jungle Outpost
3. Marshes - I loved it when reading the BT Books where a combat drop went to hell and instead of a nice glade, they'd end up in a Marsh. (Damn those out of date maps!)
4. Redwood Forest
5. Metropolis - The more city maps we have the better our urban combat experience will be. (What River City...again!)

I just spent part of my weekend playing MW2Mercs as I finally got it running in Windows 7! I couldn't help but think about all aspects of the game and how it stacks up compared to MWO.
One thing that stood out to me were some of the maps.
Two contracts MW2Mercs come to mind:
The crystal desert. You are given a contract by the FedCom to assist Davion loyal separatists on a Kurita occupied desert planet. There are crystal shards littering the desert that fool your sensors into thinking they are enemy contacts. Also there is a later mission where you need to power down in a cave as a centurion and trebuchet pass.
Baby-sitting an ice asteroid on its way to delivery. You are given a contract by the FRR to protect an ice asteroid en route to a water needy planet. The cold vacuum of space made heat efficiency not an issue at all. The low gravity while fighting on a giant ice cube made my Fatlas go scary fast (i ran off the asteroid on my first few tries). Later you go in a cavern inside the asteroid to fight 3 other mechs.
The main thing I guess I would like to see is more truly alien feeling maps. I love the gameplay that exists on Forest Colony but as far as immersion factor; it is my least favorite map.

But all of that pales in comparison to the simple fact that if you want to take something like that, why would you even bother with Battlemechs when infantry is infinitely more suited to do that job. It would be equivalent to using tanks for both assaulting and defending an aircraft carrier or oil drilling platform today.
That said it still looks cool.
