My first joystick... Back to Amstrad CPC times i had a Phaser One which worked great. That was my very first joystick

For the PC the first one i had was the old Logitech wingman Xtreme. I liked how it worked and when it broke i bought another Wingman Extreme Digital 3d, which is the one i keep using. I think It's a great joystick. I've tried a microsoft force feedback one, but i don't like it.

If I still had my old Sidewinder I'd figure out how to solder the Serial port onto the motherboard myself if I had to to use it. :)

My first was a Thrustmaster Top Gun. I've still got it sitting around, but since it's for a gameport I can't use it.

Right now I'm using a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D, with the USB adapter. It's treating me well enough. I don't know if the modern logitechs are comparable to it, though.

Hm, can't remember the name of the first joystick, but it came with an old atari 2600... :D

My favourite "joystick" was the microsoft strategic sidewinder. I used it excessive since MW3. With it, u don't need the keyboard and u could move the legs and the torso independently. In my configuration, shooting over the shoulders was easy, too. Many enemy pilots were really irritated, when they got shot down during a circle-of-death! :)

But I am sad, that I can't use it under Win7 x64 prof. I should try it with the WinXP mode. But that doesn't help me, when MWOM is released. Maybe someone has an idea, how I could use it?

I have to admit, I'm thinking about that Thrustmaster Maxx linked, but every time I'm tempted to pull the trigger on it (no pun intended), the words "you get what you pay for" pop into my head.

I'm completely dissatisfied with my Logitech Xtreme 3D, not because it's a bad $30 stick, but because it's a $30 stick. It just doesn't hold up to my older, but more expensive Force Feedback 2. I'm worried that replacing one $30-$40 stick with another isn't going to solve anything.

Yeah, it's not going to solve anything. Cheap sticks are going to feel like cheap sticks, can't really think of any joystick off the top of my head in the $30-40 range that feel like it can take a beating. They all feel like cheap plastic. If you want a stick that feels like quality, and will last you years, you might want to look into CH products. A bit more expensive, though.

The problem with CH sticks is that they're dated.

I've heard more than a few people note that they're less accurate than more modern sticks, and they're certainly less featured.

I may end up getting a Saitek X52, or just go get another Sidewinder Force Feedback 2. They may only be available used, but there's almost nothing to wear out on them (no springs).

My CH setup still performs great.(Pedals for left and right, throttle for forwards and backwards, stick for torso.) Never had an accuracy issue. Thrustmaster is good. I'm not that big of a fan of saitek but I haven't tried their latest. I have the logitech extreme 3d it's ok. I keep accidentally drifting right on the rudder, it's just not stiff enough.

To be perfectly honest, if PIrahna got together with Razr or someone like them and came out with a controller that actually closer to the way the controls are described in the fluff. I'd be all over that.

Probably something like this:
Foot Pedals - Movement, left pedal controls left leg, right pedal right leg. Jamming both down will trigger jump jets if you have them, or just a jump (i.e. <30m) if you don't.
Left Joystick - Left arm, Z-twist for torso pitch
Right Joystick - Right arm, Z-twist for torso twist

optional head movement tracking for actually where your pilot's looking.

First joystick was whatever was for the Commodore 64, I think someone mentioned it already.

Current joystick is a Wingman II that my ex bought me so I could kick his *** in MW4.

Suggestion is to go to a thrift store like Goodwill and buy up all the USB ones you can for $5 a piece.

After being completely unsatisfied with the available new options, I finally just had a friend pick up a pair of the most well-maintained used Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 sticks he could find.

I can't wait to start using it in place of my Logitech Extreme 3D.

Started with Thrustmaster FCS and WCS for Mech 2 and 3 (was fun mapping the keys back then). Wingman extreme for Mech4 because no more game ports on my computer builds, I hate the button layout of this stick, everything is a thumb button and in the heat of battle gets to be a thumb war. I like the F-16 style.
For MWO I will get the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS. Ya its a pretty penny, but hey this is Mechwarrior. I refuse to wait 10 years for a rebirth and use a crap stick, that's insulting hehe.

amen! I picked up a cheapo $10 joystick at my local Computer store so I can go back to MW4 for my fix right now, but I'll be investing in something notably more substantial come game launch.
