Shooting Down Lrms

e.g LBX cannon should be able to swipe most of the LRMs flying into into your face... a 'slice' with any laser ought to detonate some of them... machine guns should be just about as effective as AMS.

Just run ecm. No more worrying about steaks or LRM's.

I've been saying this for a long long time. Totally balanced way to buff machine guns. Leaves the shooter occupied for a little LRM protection. Awesome idea. +1. However if any weapon could shoot down LRMs, they would just get focus fired before they even got close. That wouldn't be fair. I'm ok with lbx and machine guns though.

So for 1 ton of ammo and a .5 ton weapon (1.5 total tons) certain mechs will be able to completely negate LRMs by protecting all mechs within their 200m machine gun "bubble''?
Who would put something like that in the game?

One the one hand this is not true, since there are ways to break ECM even with the current features. And on the other hand this'll change, soon in small steps with the next patch and surely later in bigger steps, once they realize ECM should not make you invisible (like null signature tech) but just disrupts missile lock.

Been saying this as well, let ballistic weapons have an effect on LRM's in flight.

Except that I didn't ask a question... Just tot that it adds a dash of realism to be able to shoot such SLOW missiles. You won't be able to hit all the missiles, just a few, and the rest will still hit. LBX will have greater hit chance to hit maybe 50% of missiles; lasers with decent chance (15% if you slice with across them), and ac with least chance (0-3%). Of course, still got to take into consideration the range... you ain't gonna take out 50% with LBX if they are 200m away. The above percentages maybe apply at 50m range.

If only missiles could fly at supersonic speeds, like they should be able to do, then no one would be able to avoid them, get terrain in the way, or have time to break a lock-on in the short distances involved in fighting in MWO, let alone be able to bring a massive weapon mount around to track wildly-evading missiles. If only missiles had the firepower a weapon of that size is meant to have, one salvo would blow apart a battlemech without trouble. If only missiles had inertial and heat-seeking guidance systems like they should, there wouldn't be any need for a lock-on in the first place.
If only things were the way they were supposed to be.
Then again, I guess there is a reason why the AMS system has that tracking system, both in the real world and in MWO. Maybe because it's alot harder to hit a missile in such a way you actually stop it (not just make it swerve a little or blow up in your face) than you think?

ECM 'mechs happen to be my favorite targets. You guys have gotten lazy

edit: As for shooting down the LRMs...it's not a bad idea, don't think it'll help though. (maybe a little...)
edit 2: Thinking about it a bit more, it wouldn't work

I see what you did there.

Resumee is:
it is possible to destroy enemy Missles.
One Shot with the LBX gave about 2 Missle Smoke Clouds, together with the 2 M-Lasers + AMS i shot out of a 30 LRM volley between 8-12 Missles out of the Air.
So LBX + 2 M-Lasers are so strong like one AMS.
Did that on 4 Enemy Missle Volleys always downed some extra Missles.
But you need Arm mounted Weapons for it to have good shot into the Curve.
The Dragon is almost the Ideal Mech for it:
The LBX got the AC2 Barrel with tight Spread so good shooting into the Missle's flight and the
2 M-Lasers are
also very moveable, this the reason for the Choice of the DRG-1C can't think of a better Missle Hunter.
Shot seperatly with LBX and Dual M-Lasers Both got some down. AMS was downing some too, but the 2 Smokeclouds from the LBX were cleary to see when the LBX bullets passed the Missles. And i saw about the same amount of smokeclouds i saw in my AS7-K and STK-5S with dual AMS, more to see with normal Single AMS for sure. But of course i had little time to count every single Missle Smoke as i was ...under fire.
My Advice from testing:
Last resort only !
