There are no more wipes; anything you buy NOW you will have in your account forever.

Sadly, that's not the case. Read the latest "Ask the Devs" - there's another wipe coming when achievements go live. No idea when that will be, of course, and it might just be a stats wipe rather than items... but don't wager anything you wouldn't care to lose.

You know that "Ask the Devs" you are referencing? It specifically states Stat Wipe.

Why in the world would they wipe any purchased items after they've specifically said no more wipes now that the game is "released?" Think of the ramifications of refunding everyone. They're not going to wipe any items, merely stats.

If you really want to get philosophical, MMO games (truly great MMO games, at least) are in a perpetual state of beta. Even after they've "officially" been released they'll still add new content and updates. The money you spend, whether before or after release, goes towards continued development.

MWO pushed into 'open beta' with less content than other MMOs should have at this point, but this is largely because MWO isn't an MMORPG. It's purely a multiplayer combat sim. They don't have to code quests with NPCs, objectives, loot, etc. They went into open beta with less because the game is easily playable and enjoyable in the state its in. The core gameplay and mechanics are in place and everything else that comes afterwards is just adding on, but they obviously don't want to officially release until they have a lot more in place. But as has been said, anything you buy now sticks with you (except for paints, since those get overwritten every time you repaint. That would be the only thing I say don't bother paying for.)

that will be an Stat WIpe only.

to Op:

Its Beta, many will change till its released.
But Hell its already so much fun to play. And whatever you buy, you keep it after release, or at least get an refound like now with the Color Sheme Phase 2.

I Like this game and i help the Developmet with my few bucks i throw in.

What i like most, There is no P2w Content.
Whatever you like to have ( exept Hero mechs Mechbays and Premium Colors ) you can get by C Bills.

Braddack has it right about the wipe. Your K/D, xp per game kind of stuff. Worst case I imagine they reimburse all of the spent MC/c-bills and let you start with a clean mechbay but that just seems silly to do really.

Oh come on, the game has enough problems to address without fake ones.

Stats will be wiped prior to achievements because they have no desire to reward all the people abusing the system for BS stats.

If they do this right the game should never be "done". Do to the fact the life of a f2p is always add new things for players to drool on.

I've bought mc for about four mechs other than the ones the founders came with. Rest I've used in game cb. I buy mc randomly normally at the lowest teir because I have a lot of other things to pay off first but I figure it helps keep the developent going and servers up.

Alright, I've never posted before, but I'm confused. Apparently there's a sale this week on 'Mechs. That's fine and all, but I was under the assumption that the game was still in Beta. As in Beta testing? If they're currently only testing the game right now and it hasn't been released, why would anybody pay real money to get something to test?

Or has the game been released, but since it isn't finished, they thought they'd call it Beta as an excuse for an incomplete product with lots of bugs that needs constant patches?

I haven't played the game yet, because I was waiting for it to be released, since I don't enjoy testing games (Alpha, Beta, or OTRs of any kind). So is the game live, in Beta, or in some sort of in-between limbo? Just curious as to its status so I know whether to await a release date or whatever.

As a Beta Tester for Heavy Metal Pro Programs I had to buy the Program before I could test it. Sure it was like $25, but it as the price of doing business. And Rick was and still is one of the most upstanding people I have even not met in person. He is even more so than some folks I have met for real.

"Beta" these days isn't really being used the same way as it used to be. Nowadays, it's basically a publicity stunt of sorts to generate hype (instead of just fully releasing it in one day out of nowhere) and is used as a means to get development $$$ before development is complete enough to consider it a "full release."

Personally, I have a different definition of "full release." For instance, I consider TF2 to have been officially "released" back in 2007. As we all know, Valve has added astronomically more content (by a factor of at least 50 times) to it over time than there was on October 9th, 2007. That doesn't change the fact that it was a truly stand-alone and complete game back then. They simply decided to keep adding to it.

Also, this isn't really an MMO until CW gets implemented.

I'd by the MC if you are starting off just so you get the C-Bill bonus. I think they still have that. If you are going to get a Hero mech, get the Ilya Muromets.

Officially it's in beta because the game is in an incomplete state and much, much content needs to be added. In practice it's released becasue PGI needed the money to continue development.

I spend money, because I'm a MW fan of old. PGI are just capitalizing on this ;) .

But seriously, MWO, is essentially an experimental MW reboot, and I love PGI for trying. So I will quiet happily 'invest' in this game, in hope that it leads to bigger better things.

While many features are still in testing/balancing, the game servers and player accounts are LIVE.

Isn't there going to be one more wipe? I thought I read they were going to wipe stats at some point. Or did they retract that statement?

*EDIT* Read the rest of the posts and got my answer.

The game still is in beta. There's people who have spent 120 dollars or more, to become founders and buy mechs and mechbays (making it even easier and faster to elite skill all the game mechs).

nope. not even close. To be out of beta means to have the fundamental structure of the game almost perfect. Expanding on that with expansions is not reverting the earlier version to beta status.

Released means:

Stability.
Little to no bugs.
A good block of content.

Funny, I seem to remember buying Red Orchestra 2 and Battlefield 3 before their official release so I could Beta test those too. I pay in Betas to help support development and to help mold the game itself. Or I could just be like a lot of people here and make nonproductive snide comments.

Beta is the new "Buy my unfinished product so I can see if it will be profitable to finish it."
