Recently me and my brother had a discussion about BattleTech. He said it was s---, but that is not the point.

He believes that BattleTech should walk the path of X-COM and enter some form of modernised, redesigned MechWarrior Game that is not, and I quote 'An alpha with shameless cash grab microtransaction mechs that are reskinned and took 3 days to make'

He believes that PGI or some other group wipe canon clean, keeping remnants. Eliminate all previous Great Houses, Clans and BattleMechs (They are considered in 'new Canon' as technological relics) and bring in several new concepts.

Such as
ENERGY SHIELDS: Heavy as hell, and stop enemy fire, and decrease heat tolerances (described later)

NEW WEAPONS, MECHS, AND VEHICLES: For example, the 'Dasher' would be replaced by the 'Blitzer', armed with two http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrojet type guns called 'Rocket Rifles' for destroying heavy tanks or something. Also, there would be long range MLRS offmap support, and crap. Also High Energy Lasers which melt lasers over time.

NEW FACTIONS: Gone are Draconis, Steiner, Davion, Liao, and Marik, but rather, some new great houses or something.

WEIRD DAMAGE/HEAT/ARMOUR SYSTEM: We have moved past the barbaric ways of heatsinks! Our 'Mechs no longer overheat of our own weapons, as we have developed 'insulation' that can handle this. Also, old armour is crap. You have stuff that is heatporrfed, fireproofed, ablative, and other stuff. Instead, heat caused is from other weapons. Damage is also now changed into different types.

That is all I remember. Post your thoughts on the matter, and the ideas

I do think current plans for BT is to possibly quickly skip past the Dark Age Era. New tech is introduced all the time and factions are born, fall, reborn, merged into something unique, etc. But the ideas you presented is not keeping with the spirit of BT and thus would be heavily opposed by the community (it's a very touchy one, after all).

So basically he wants to make an entirely new game. >______>

Well then make that game! It could be good one day. It's not this one though.

I won't vote in the poll because it's badly worded, but this is a horrible idea. These ideas do not fit with the spirit of Battletech. They might do nicely for a new, original big-stompy-robot series, but not for BT.

My one gripe with BT was that the art, with some very few exceptions, sucked, but PGI is taking care of that quite nicely.

My thoughts. It was my brother's idea, because he hated BTech with some kinda passion.

But I think we also need a new singleplayer MW game to ease new people in. Like a HD remake of 2 or 3

That's the game the devs wanted to do off the bat, but moneyguys these days hear F2P and think OBOY MICROTRANSACTION GOLDRUSH so they had to go this route instead. It's kind of silly because they could have made a lot of scratch with the SP-first MP-added approach; despite some appearances these guys know their giant robots. But moneyguys beat devs every time. It's too bad.

Those old campaigns were fun, and would be a lot better for getting rookies into the game than throwing them into a pit of lava armed with a paper hat and a pin. After a point they tire of the AI they can now core with a Flea armed with a single SL, and they seek out the challenge of live players that they know awaits them. And if they never get good enough to graduate out of an AI-enemy environment, they will not clutter the fields of tougher battles with their useless broken corpses, thus depriving them and everyone else of a good fight.

Brother here. I'm posting here to basically clear up crap. First of all, this was TERRIBLY worded. Absolutely does not represent my opinion very well at all. Basically, the Mechwarrior series has been stagnant for a looooonnnngggg time. Sure, my ideas may " Break the spirit of battletech" But when was an MMO ever in the spirits of battletech? Specifically Mechwarrior. Now, my ideas actually overhaul the gameplay. It's like Command and Conquer, for example. That had done the same thing for 10+ years. That died as a result. Sure, my ideas may seem a bit "Gundam", but this series desperately needs innovation. MWO is not that innovation. It is the same game with the MMO sticker slapped on the front. You need appeal to new audience with major good changes. Sure, you don't want to hook in all the 13 year-old Anime Gundam fans, but intelligent PC players that the game appeals to. Now, responses to specific posts.

@Hrungnir Yeah, again, it may be not keeping with the spirit, but a lot of the time innovation doesn't necessarily keep with the original spirit. Breathe new fire into the game, don't kindle the old one.

@Tarman I never said i wanted to make this game. We were discussing ways to make Battletech better. ( As stated before, i do not enjoy the series. ) I suggested the ideas, and my brother said " I'm posting it on the forums. " I challenged him to do so. Here we are.

@Terran Again, look at my responses to others.

@Karl So... I wanted to contribute nothing to the conversation at all and feel superior by mocking some dude's brother? Protip: Don't pull that crap.

And now, i may not get to respond again. ( My brother is touchy with these things) Good day to you sirs, and enjoy your MW wherever it may go.

I have to apologize.
I was indeed very disrespectful.

Is the idea about creating another - Mecha Kind SicFi - or a direct development of BattleTech.
BattleTech as you should know is SicFi of the 1980's so if BattleTech would be invented today - well it would have been different.
If you like we can talk more seriously about it in the OffTopic or via PN.

@Karl Don't bother. He said he won't post again.

But he thinks Battletech needs new gaming invention crap. Like energy shields etc. It kinda rustles my jimmies. So I posted here so you guys would prove him wrong.

There's already gyrojet autocannons and energy fields :D.. But most of these other ideas I'm not sure I can agree with.

This thread is about the same as suggesting to EA Sports

"Hey guys! I have a great new idea for Madden 2014!"
"We remove the 11 players, touch downs, field goals, "
"every affiliated team, and let people run around with laser rifles,"
"and space ships! It would be AMAZING!"

You basically don't want MechWarrior at this point. Try Hawken, they have most of what your brother suggested.

They tried it with this Clix-System or whatever it was called WizKids used and the Dark Age Timeline. Those were already drastic changes, but it didn't work in terms of increasing player numbers.

Battletech was just not appealing enough, maybe giant walking deathmachines are too special.

That was more like Collectible Fighting Dump Trucks, and the stuff looked as bad as it played. If the Dark Ages hasn't happened yet they should just JJ Abrams it and split off a timeline where it never happens.

Don't have to read any further.

C&C "died" (did they really die? At least the series started to suck badly) because they invented new crappy things (aliens...) and in the end changed the RTS concept that made the series great from the beginning. So all in all exactly what you want to propose here for BT.
