Well, I've run my stable of 'Phracts a few times (did by the -3 version) and noticed that every time I got taken out, ENGINE DESTROYED. Got cored 99.9% of the time (one was Ammo explosion, no CASE).

I'm not very happy and I'm not running XL engines either...

But I do like the 'Phract. I just have to get that right weapon balance and find the right distance to do some damage.

2 of my 'phracts have XL engines and I'm thinking of sticking one in the third to fit bigger guns, most bullets and lasers are attracted to the CT anyway. My only gripe is the positioning of the arms, I seem to shoot an awful lot in to the dirt.

The biggest problem is the 4X, it really needs the speed limitation removed. not sure why it was there in the first place?

I noticed my ability to survive went up significantly from the 4x to the 2X.

they are a fragile beastie to be sure, but no moreso than any other heavy. If i dont get 300+ dam on my 2xgauss 3xml muromet it's my fault, not the mechs. the secret is not to brawl with em, stand off at med range (~400m) support sniping with ppc's, gauss or a/c's. Your other option is to set up near cover and keep lrm boats moving from extreme range, ducking in and out as needed to protect yourself. At 1000m a pair of gauss or ac5 is still smacking hard enough to make all but the pro's duck after the 1st shot

My 3D isn't very good for front line brawling (XL enginge and I'm not really that good a brawler pilot), but I can make some fire support quite good and if I manage a flanking position it's great.
2xERPPC,2xML,2xUAC5

People who charge with them tend to get smacked quite fast.

I use this and have a blast. It is a very mid range to long range support mech. If I get primary then I'm dead in a matter of moments which can really suck. Still I think the 'Phracts do just nicely without the XL and I'm often more afraid of a 'Phract nowadays than an A1.

I've been running my 2x with a 280xl, 3xPPC, 2xSRM6, and I've been doing pretty well with it. Obviously it's set up as a standoff mech, but the SRMs really provide a lot of discouragement for light mechs as well a nice punch if you find yourself in a close range position.
