Hi all, was wondering whether you may have experienced what may be a bug in the new patch?
So, after the new patch, I've upgraded my STK-3F to FF Armor for Cb 425,000 - after it was applied, weight drops as expected but the armor on the Stalker stays the same and does not increase by 12%!
I've observed pre-patch when I've done the same thing to my DDC - armor increases by 12% and weight drops.
Is this a bug??!!

FF doesn't increase your armorpoints and never did. If you saw this on your DDC you were either high or drunk.

You were smoking substances legal in Washington state before.
FF Armor never increased the maximum armor on your mech, it just reduced the weight of your armor.

I think you're misunderstanding what FF does, it doesn't directly translate to more armour on your mech. For example, a location may have a maximum of 32 points of armour pre FF, after FF it'll still have that max of 32 points, but the cumulative weight of those 32 points of armour will have lowered ( giving you more free weight ). Essentially you can fit more armour per tonne, but outside of weight & crit slots being used by FF, FF doesn't make your mech have more armour - and the same armour distribution limits for your chassis still apply.
Why use FF? If you have a light mech loaded to full capacity at 35 tonnes but only have 128 armour points and you upgrade to FF, you increase the amount of armour points you have available to distribute for the same weight ( using this example FF frees up enough weight for you to fit another 15 points of armour for a max of 143 to distribute across your mech ). Of course since all that application of FF has done is drop the weight of your loadout by half a tonne you could choose to add a jumpjet instead of applying more armour.

Thanks guys for your replies - sorry but I'm nowhere near Washington and I was completely 100% sane. The statement in-game was "12% more protection per ton, occupies 14 critical slots but weighs less" - so this to me implies when you apply FF, you get 12% more per ton, and it weighs less but you give up 14 crit slots as trade-off.
Anyway thanks for clearing that up - now back to MWO post-patch!

For the record, you should only apply FerroFibrous armor after applying EndoSteel internal structure to a mech.
EndoSteel also uses up 14crits, but saves more weight.

OneMedicArmy, is there any advantage of having both EndoSteel and FF - weight savings aside? I'd like to put them both on - but in most cases 28 critical slots are a bit too much to lose in my mechs.
I applied FF, as after my Assaults (Atlas & Stalker) have been decked out and optimised there are still 14 crits available, thus the FF.

The benefit of both is weight savings.
Generally you can only fit both on light mechs, some mediums, and Dragons. For heavies/assaults go with DHS and Endo first.
Here's a web mechlab you can try builds out with: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

Many thanks for the tips One Medic Army - I've also already got that web mechlab link so I'll give it a go!

Yeah, mediums take it well, especially cents.
I was actually surprised that ALL OF THEM could take FF and Endo at the same time, while still using all weapon slots.
