Catapult (Not simply cause of the reveal) Dual LRM's for long range 4 med lasers for a close in engagement or to keep in the fight after ammo runs dry. JJ's for combat mobility. Decent armor, respectable speed for a IS heavy. Also LRM's plus it's a reliable mech that's stood the test of time. A light I would take a Jenner 4 med lasers with SRM's nasty loadout for a speedy light mech.

I actually love the jenner. Playing the circling game vs big mechs in any small was always fun!

depending on the weight class my 1st choices are typically:

light
wolfhound mabie a jenner but its not a primary mech for my preferred factions,
with my luck I would probabally be stuck with a valkerie but a "captured raven would be "interesting"

medium
my 1st chouce would be a phoenix hawk, a witworth would be "interesting" I guess I could live with a crab, but one of the most common mechs is an enforcer

heavy
here is where a lot of my favorite chassis are my favorites: marauder warhammer, archer is ok, rifleman ... has potentual, if I can mod it a little I could work with a catapult (captured) some versions of the crusader etc

assault mechs
thug, hadamoto CHI, battlemaster a banshee marauder II or an atlas

Hatchetman. It's got a great mix of speed, firepower, and heat management. But, I'd rip out those lasers and AC for some SRMs, med. pulse lasers and a DHS or two.

A customised Assassin.

First I have to think of what class of mech would be adequate for start.

I think light mechs shouldn't be the starter-mechs. High-tech electronic warfare should be the strength of the light mechs, and high-tech is expensive.

I prefer medium mechs for a starting-machine. They are mostly well-balanced in maneuverability, armor and dps.
Also the mech should have a widespread arsenal with weapons for most ranges, so you're not handicapped as a new pilot with no funds to costumize your loadout, when you're forced to spawn on a map not suited for your mech.

I don't think your starting-mech should be influenced by your allegiance.

Personally I would have opted for the Bushwacker(http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Bushwacker), but as far as the BattleTechWiki tells me, this mech is around ten years from deployment in the game.

And since I openly admit, that I'm not much deeper into the BattleTech-Universe than MW3, MW4 plus some of the novels allowed me to dive in, I'm not that fit on all the mechs and their standard-loadouts to say which machine fits my criterias best.

I'm no fanboy and don't really care about battletech fluff when it comes to a MW game, I have no particular chasis I want to see, but I do have some cryteria(think I spelled that right). I would like a larger heavy mech(70-75 tons), direct fire(lasers/ppc/guass), JJ capable, and have a decent alpha strike compared to other mechs in the game. If I had to pick a chasis from the ones I know, it'd probably be a Black Knight.

Warhammer or Archer.

I much prefer heavies to anything and my favorite IS med isn't deployed yet.
