It would be nice though if players could choose their starting mech from a selection based on faction that includes both light and medium mechs. I think this would work well because extra maneuverability of light mechs may be a bit difficult to control and may discourage some players so the mediums should make them feel a bit more comfortable and give them enough armor / guns to stand up to players in heavy and assault mechs.

That would probably be coincidence. The Capellan Confederation is probably the House that puts the Urbanmech to greatest use. The Capellans worlds are heavilly populated, and with the large cities and common conflict, especially with the Suns, the Urbanmech lives up to it's name. It is not a mech I would choose to invade an enemy with, but it has high firepower for a mech it's size, and can provide excellent defense.

If i would start in a Dire Wolf what can i archieve after that? O.o
So i would liek to start in a nice medium or light mech. Think heavy mechs as start arent that good for the balance. So a Locust or an Hellspawn would be nice for me.(Was teh Hellspawn even build at this time? )
I agree; starting in an Assault should probably be like an 80 tonner or maybe 85; starting in a 100 ton Clan 'Mech with huge BV might be a bit much. At the same time, since no 'Mech or weight class will really be "king" like in the old games, a Dire Wolf might not be the impenetrable fortress it has been in the previous games.
Also, I am afraid to say that everything I can find on the Hellspawn indicates it coming out of the 3067 TRO, so I don't think it will be around for a while, if at all.

medium= bushwacker
heavy= cauldrinborn
assualt= fafnir
of couse all depends on the choices we are given.
I too love these 'mechs, especially the Puma/Adder and Cauldron Born/Ebon Jaguar. My understanding is that the game is starting in 3049 and none of these 'Mechs will be available Bushwacker and Cauldron Born comes out in TRO 3058, and I think the Fafnir is 3067...
The Puma is from 3050 though so we'll see that one

Quite a line-up! I hope we can keep a hanagar full of all sorts of 'Mechs like that. You have a great balance of mediums and heavies in there. I was kind of hoping this game would have like a "Hangar wars" mode where you have limited respawns, but each time you die you can use another 'Mech in your hangar - Start in a stormcrow, get some kills, eject, and you could come back in with an executioner! What a surprise for your opponents LOL

I don't think everyone will be starting off in a light mech - the devs said you can start in any weight class you want. Would probably be a lower-end mech in its class though (ie: dragon instead of timberwolf lol)

Pretty sure you won't need to start with a light, but I would love to start with a Wolfhound. Great energy weapons. It was fast, but the large laser really packed a punch! I know in MW4:Mercs it has an X-Pulse large which is also pretty powerful.

I think a cougar or adder would be too good for a light pilot specialist to start in - they're kind of top-of-the-line light mechs and I'd like to see people be able to work up to the better ones from the smaller ones. I'd rather they start with like you said, kitfox or firemoth, or a nova or stormcrow as medium, perhaps hellbringer as heavy, and maybe a gargoyle as an assault.

if you want to be a commander, a Thorn, Hornet, or (if steiner) commando
If you want to be a heavy/assault pilot, a Panther or Urbanmech
This might work too - everyone starting in a light, but you have lights of different "roles" so to speak - more tanky or powerful lights can lead to the heavy/assault trees, while the quicker ones would lead to faster scouts (like the Raven or something). This would work well if the tech tree/development tree looked like world of tanks. That said I think again, people can start in any weight class, so if they want to be a heavy or assault, they can start in one!

I would love to start in a Commando - just like MW2:Mercs. As long as Sgt. Unther doesn't laugh about it with his catapult LOL

Maybe there will be training maps where you have training-specific 'Mechs. I can't find the sarna link, but I know that there are battlemechs that were designed specifically for training, or specifically for training new pilots. They might give us one of those, or have different training levels for different weight classes.

I think it's been confirmed by the devs that all 'Mechs are available to every faction, but perhaps starting funds would limit the initial choices to ones from your own house. So I think that they'll include light, medium, heavy, and assaults from different factions. That said, some players will be mercs or lone wolves, and they'll be paying out of their own pocket.
