Someone mentioned cheap/light mechs and lest be honest, as a noob that is what you are going to start with, there will be no Warhammers, or Atlas's for a new roll character.
so for light mechs to start with, Jenner (Project Phoenix Variant) , Owens, Wolfhound, or maybe a Mongoose for giggles.
what would I like to work my way up to... Archer (The Pride of Morgen Kell), Executioner, Avatar, or Marauder
As for clan I have always had a soft spot for the Turkina C

This is a site that has every Mech made out of LEGO. For quick visual references of the chassis.

Seconded!
Perhaps someone (Catalyst? PGI? MekTek? Someone else entirely?) might considering licensing and producing those as sets for tie-in promotions and such...?

When it comes to the Clan mechs, I think the obvious choice is the Summoner. Mobile, balanced weaponry, all-around doom-bringer.

Mhm, you obviously never heard of that fine piece of rasalhaguean poetry that sits at the core of each FRR mech pilot's beliefs. Well, I'm gonna help you out, read and shiver with... awe.
The charge of the Urbie brigade
Half a klick, half a klick,
Half a klick onward,
All in the valley of Death
Walked the six hundred.
‘Forward, the Urbie Brigade!
Charge for the Assaults!’ he said:
Into the valley of Death
Crawled the six hundred.
‘Forward, the Urbie Brigade!’
Was there a Mech dismay’d?
Not tho’ the pilots knew
Someone had blunder’d:
Their’s not to make reply,
Their’s not to reason why,
Their’s but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Walked the six hundred.
Dire Wolfs to the right of them,
Gladiators to the left of them,
Warhawks in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
Boldly they advanced and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Clan-Hell
Walked the six hundred.
Flash’d all their ACs bare,
Flash’d as they turn’d in air
Shooting the assault Mechs there,
Charging a Clan Galaxy, while
All the IS wonder’d:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro’ the line they broke;
Freeborns both and Trueborns
Reel’d from the AC volleys
Shatter’d and sunder’d.
Then they turned back, but not
Not the six hundred.
Dire Wolfs to the right of them,
Gladiators to the left of them,
Warhawks behind them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
While Urbie and pilot fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade ?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder’d.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Urbie Brigade,
Noble six hundred!
In memoriam Tyra Miraborg, yes, the Kamikaze spirit still lives!
Sorry for the initial formatting issues, bloody forum software decided all of suddent to go totally bonkers on me here. Think I'll give up before it screws it up even more...
