Catapult, Flashman, Urbanmech. Any of these will do, but if I can start in a Cata I will be in soaring spirits as I rip you apart.

Naw, the phoenix hawk lam has to be from robotech.....
I could probably best that csv blake with a 3025 era catapult loadout and tech.

You are aware a Black Lion class has more than half a dozen guns that can easily oneshot every Mech easily on its own?

Some excellent page stretching going on here.

Anyway, I'm here just to provide a public service announcement that it has been confirmed that we will be able to choose what weight class we start the game with. We can start in lights, or mediums, or heavies, or assaults. It's not like "oh look at all the noobs, everyone starts in a flea/urbanech/locust" - someone in their first game, on day 1, could be piloting an 80-ton monstrosity.

That said, bigger is NOT always better, especially with the different combat dynamics of urban fighting, information/electronic warfare, and how from what I've read, it will be much more difficult to aim/maneuver than in MW4, especially in slower 'Mechs.

12v12 and 8v8 fights in combination with the environments and electronic warfare will not just give light 'Mechs a purpose, but make them the lifeblood of a match. You will NEED scouts, you will NEED information, and you can be outnumbered or outgunned but if you work as a TEAM, you can overcome the enemy. Say you're in a Raven and come across an Atlas - insta-death, right? Wrong. The developers are aiming to make fights not insta-gib or "alpha them a couple times and they die" but a skillful battle. You can duck behind cover, you can move much faster than him, you can break line of sight, you can use jumpjets, you can get behind him, poke at his rear armor.

Oh, and did I mention it's 12v12 or 8v8? Not 1v1? Drop a NARC beacon on him, and let the Catapults and Longbows rain down their indirect LRM fire on him while you break LOS...Their rockets will descend upon his 'Mech, he'll be too slow to get out of the way, and with you spotting for them, the fire-support 'Mechs are much more effective. I'm just trying to say, scout 'Mechs (light, medium, or otherwise) will have their role, and it's not like you will be "screwed" or "useless" if you do your first match in a Jenner.

Light: Raven, there are several different variants, one even has jumpjets, and it would be fun to be a scout, or light fire support.
Medium: Griffin, a good fire support mech, could also double as an anti air platform. I also like the nice open cockpit, should give me a clear view of the battlefield while I'm jumping around.
Heavy: Rifleman, again, several variants, my favourite is the one with 2 AC10s.
Assault: The Stalker, an assault mech with bite! Let's face it, if you're playing assault, you want to have a mech that can dish it out. The Stalker is a beast which has enough firepower to overwhelm almost any mech at every range, it's slow, but I'd trust to my team mates to cover my back while I move in for the kill.

I like mechs which tend to run hot. I don't mind focusing on evading the enemy while waiting for the mech to cool down, and I think I've got the patience to volley my firepower to get the most from mechs which perhaps are carrying more guns than they can use. All of these mechs have good base configurations and would be a good place to start the game.

I think most of the posters missed the to START in....

If i would start in a Dire Wolf what can i archieve after that? O.o

So i would liek to start in a nice medium or light mech. Think heavy mechs as start arent that good for the balance. So a Locust or an Hellspawn would be nice for me.(Was teh Hellspawn even build at this time? )

For me the mechs i would choose to run around in are the puma, nova, stormcrow, rifleman, catapult, warhammer, timberwolf, man o' war, and the executioner. Each mech has strength and weaknesses. Nowhow's that for a line up, eh?

There are already several threads asking what mech you want to see, but what mech would you like to begin the game using? Think of mechs that are cheap for their weight class.

Me? I think I'd go with the classic Urbie. Cheap (1,471,925 C-bills) and effective. Packs a whallop and can go toe to toe with mechs twice its weight. I want to see the look on the newcomers faces when they get stomped by the trash can of doom.

Definitely a UrbanMech.
A lance charged with guarding a location like a spaceport, city, etc. is a perfect scenario for the Urbie to flex it's muscle. I always thought 3 UrbanMechs w/ a "suppression fire" mechtype could repel just about any attack.

If I get the chance, I'd like to investigate the Raven as well.

Lot of the mechs are on the banned list because of the issues with Robotech.
I know, for a while they were out again (Project Phoenix), but the issue reared its ugly head and now they're banned.

Likely you wont see some of our fav's, unless the dev's get clearence for them.

It would be a shame indeed to have the game shutdown becasue of a law suite before its even begun.

If that does happen, I would welcome the Mayan calender theory.

My starter mech has to be the catapult. The 3025 variant consisting of 4 med lasers, jump jets and two lrm 15s was a good mech up to the clans showing up.

Starting out i would love an old 45 ton blackjack, however a jenner will do if we must start out with small ones.

If a small one was the requirement to start out with then i would have to go with the wolfhound. For a light mech it was a decent. Good mix for weapons and mobility.

A decent start off mech(as the inner sphere) would perhaps be a commando, wolfhound or a panther. Clan mechs I'd suggest would be cougar, adder, uller, or a dasher.

Well, if you want to be a scout, a Locust, stinger, Wasp.
if you want to be a commander, a Thorn, Hornet, or (if steiner) commando
If you want to be a heavy/assault pilot, a Panther or Urbanmech

My favorite is definitly the Urbanmech/Urbie! With the Urbie i killed some 100ton clanmeks in mw4 some years ago. I love it!
