I would take either the Conjourer or the MadDog. But if we had to start in a light i would like either a Solitare or a Clan Jenny.

You can probably guess I prefer to fight at long range

I'll take whatever is available.Played timber wolf for it's awesome cool looking mech with all the awesome attributes, but in playing UA mw3, I now prefer a faster mech with decent jump jet capabilities. I absolutely enjoy the realistic physical constraints Mw has always placed in their pc games. Read most the book series, and even wrote a outline etc. of my own. The Catapult would do me fine if I had a nice cadre about. So is this for real? I have had my hopes before, and have been looking at the Havoc trailer, drooling a bit.

Ebon Jaguar, that is an awesome name for that mech...I like both it's names lol..Cauldron Born...Does that mech not have a torso twise to it?

It has always had torso twist.

^_^
I'm pretty sure that the version presented in the TROs and in MW3 could not turn its torso (as it seem to have had the same arm-mount-through-the-hip-joint configuration as the Nova/"Black Hawk"), while the MW4 redesign featured a more conventional configuration that would allow for torso-twisting...

Bit late to the party here, but I'd take a Thunderbolt, Marauder or Grasshopper, assuming theres a snowballs chance any of those actually make it in game.

Thank goodness that they'll be sticking to the canon then.

Oh, but MekTek's Ares is canon now.

To add to my previous choice of starter: While I would like to start in a Fafnir, I am aware it won't be around for a few years. ^_^

So, from the possible 'mechs that may be in the game, and are in service in the IS circa 3049, these are my preferred choices:

Light: Raven or Wolfhound or Jenner

Medium: Shadow Hawk or Hunchback or Griffin

Heavy: Orion or Warhammer or Catapult

Assault: Cyclops or Zeus or Longbow

Of course I would like to start in the same 'Mech I would like to end with; the Timber Wolf Alpha variant. But I would be willing to settle for a Marauder or Warhammer to start with.

Light 'Mechs? I do not believe in light 'Mechs. But that Hunchback is looking awefully sexy all of a sudden...

I'm not sure how Inner Sphere nobodies will start in advanced Clan battle suits.

well to tell the Truth i think what this game needs more options and that said i think that it would be wise to let the player choose what mech he or she will start out in by letting more than one Mech to choose from for a simple Idea let the Corp, Faction or Army (Sponsor) the players choice and each Faction to choose from should have One mech to choose from im talking some offer light mechs to full blown mech and the more you win and claim more in you Wake of destruction you unlock bigger and more developed Factions and with them More BAMF MECHS . and some Modifications should also be available at the start low end of coarse. build money through contracts and then build Mechs Simple RPG rules but effective

Hopefully, this is not going to be a "grind to get that heavy/assault" battlemech game. From what I have seen from the developers, this will be a tactical, team-oriented game in which all weight classes will be needed. An assault mech is great if you need to destroy a dropship but not very good for locating said dropship's screening force. I actually don't imagine any real "character progression" like you see in typically RPGs.

And for those who are clamoring for Clan Tech: Check the freakin' setting! The clans haven't shown up yet, and with one literal day equaling one day in the universe, then it is going to be awhile before the clan tech shows up. Take this opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the Inner Sphere and its various factions; choose an Inner Sphere Battlemech and master it.

Lastly, I fully expect the opportunity to select an assualt mech like the Atlas if I so choose on launch day, judging from the Developers' comments. Although, I'm looking at the Dragon myself.

I shall continue to champion (sporadically so as not to seem overbearing) the view that you should be able to start in any 'mech, or at the very least, have a good selection from all tonnage ranges available to all new players. As long as PGI delivers on the idea that a variety of different 'mechs/'mech weights is the ideal lance composition, then assault 'mechs should just be another cog on the battlefield and not some sort of auto-win button, which means there's a place for all variety of 'mechs.

Heck, if assault 'mechs or heavies turn out to be overly common, it's quite possible light and medium drivers will find themselves a hot commodity.

It all depends on how people want to play it, of course. I can't wait to see what comes out of it either way. I already know what my play style is. And if anybody does "grind" their way into an Atlas on the first day but doesn't know what to do with it, then they're going to have some very large repair bills.

Also, how goes Corsair? Glad to see the DSA standard still flying.

It says to be canonized, which means that it isn't canonized right now.

At any rate, it's not canon if it's not on the Master unit list, check out this website for it:
http://www.masterunitlist.info/

There will also be a naming issue here, since Dark Age already introduced a mech named Ares. The recent colossal mech construction rules published in "Jihad: Final Reckoning" has opened up the possibility to have this mech within the current ruleset. Check out these pages for more info:
http://www.sarna.net...final_reckoning
http://www.sarna.net...28BattleMech%29

In short, it's rather unlikely at this point that the Ares will be canonized any time soon,

The TRO version has torso-twist even when the artwork doesn't depict it as such. Same goes for mechs like the Nova.

I'll have to check MW3 to be sure about that one though, but the MW2: Mercs version has torso-twisting as well.
