Just a little bit about the mind of the champion, the power of vision and goal-setting. The same principles which drive excellence in sports and martial arts can and should be applied to competitive gaming.

Words and phrases to throw out:
Boring, unfair, stupid, cheater, not fun, honor, dishonor, cheap

Words and phrases to keep:
Play to win, respect

Quote

Notice that the good players are reaching higher and higher levels of play. They found the "cheap stuff" and abused it. They know how to stop the cheap stuff. They know how to stop the other guy from stopping it so they can keep doing it. And as is quite common in competitive games, many new tactics will later be discovered that make the original cheap tactic look wholesome and fair. Often in fighting games, one character will have something so good it's unfair. Fine, let him have that. As time goes on, it will be discovered that other characters have even more powerful and unfair tactics. Each player will attempt to steer the game in the direction of his own advantages, much how grandmaster chess players attempt to steer opponents into situations in which their opponents are weak.

...

The scrub has still more crutches. He talks a great deal about "skill" and how he has skill whereas other players--very much including the ones who beat him flat out--do not have skill. The confusion here is what "skill" actually is. In Street Fighter, scrubs often cling to combos as a measure of skill. A combo is sequence of moves that are unblockable if the first move hits. Combos can be very elaborate and very difficult to pull off. But single moves can also take "skill," according to the scrub. The "dragon punch" or "uppercut" in Street Fighter is performed by holding the joystick toward the opponent, then down, then diagonally down and toward as the player presses a punch button. This movement must be completed within a fraction of a second, and though there is leeway, it must be executed fairly accurately. Ask any scrub and they will tell you that a dragon punch is a "skill move." Just last week I played a scrub who was actually quite good. That is, he knew the rules of the game well, he knew the character matchups well, and he knew what to do in most situations. But his web of mental rules kept him from truly playing to win. He cried cheap as I beat him with "no skill moves" while he performed many difficult dragon punches. He cried cheap when I threw him 5 times in a row asking, "is that all you know how to do? throw?" I gave him the best advice he could ever hear. I told him, "Play to win, not to do ˜difficult moves.'" This was a big moment in that scrub's life. He could either write his losses off and continue living in his mental prison, or analyze why he lost, shed his rules, and reach the next level of play.

"Alright, Steel Jag," you say as you roll your eyes, "The only thought you put into your name entailed just deciding to modify Clan Smoke Jaguar to not be canon. It's obvious, and so unoriginal."

Well, not exactly. We might have been a Smoke Jaguar team once upon a time, but all that remains of that heritage is a love for a hellacious, awesome cat.

Turns out, jaguars are F***ING BADASS, and there's no better mascot out there. Jags are nature's finest predator.

Jaguars are so top class, they're known to prey on other predators, namely caiman. Yikes. I guess hiding in the trees and leaping down onto deer and peccary was just too easy for this badass jag.

Quote

These beautiful and powerful beasts were prominent in ancient Native American cultures. In some traditions the Jaguar God of the Night was the formidable lord of the underworld. The name jaguar is derived from the Native American word yaguar, which means "he who kills with one leap."

This chick's so cool, she doesn't even need both eyes. She's got this. (Poor caiman.)

This awesome cat is super threatened, though. If you're interested in learning more about how to help preserve them, check out the Jaguar Conservation Fund and spread a little jaguar love. :3

The first phase of our new website has gone live, check it out at www,SJRgaming.com !

We are planning to make our front website much more public and community accessible, with a one stop shop to find our recent matches and upcoming livestream dates, and the ability for everyone to participate in match discussions. We are also hoping to provide content by SJR members,

This just in!

SJR has quit the game.

Of the ~40 players on the team, only 10 remain playing, and the majority have stated they will be joining KaoS, and the remaining 2 are restarting Snow Raven.

Peace out, MWO!

Ah, if only... this would be good times indeed. KaoS would welcome SJR with open arms; our forum trolling esports team is looking for dedicated individuals to take on the moderators and overthrow their Goon puppet masters. You'd need to put in practice 4-5 nights per week and develop an aggressive drinking problem, but I believe SJR have the right winning mentality to step their game up to the next level.

CSR on the other hand... filthy beggars. You should see the smut they left on the KaoS forums. It was a boobie apocalypse. Good riddance to them and may the Lord pity their tainted souls.

Hello! Just want to give you guys an invite to a league we have created:

With the advent of private lobbies we will have the opportunity to play 1vs1, 4vs4, 8vs8, and 12vs12.
We have created traditional ladder leagues to give everyone a chance to play opponents around their same skill level and be the best that they can be.
There is no cost and everyone is invited to play. There is something here for everyone.
League play will begin on Monday 5/5/2015 at 10PM EST. Check the website for all the details!

I usually don't bump posts. We have other people assigned to that task.

SJR is probably one of the best competitive teams out there. If your not in a Clan already and your looking for a good group to get into with competitive play in mind? These guys can do that for you!

They're also very helpful towards the rest of the community. They have my respect, and I have to give props to anyone that kicks your cockpit in and tries to help you out after wards! Great group of guys!
