As someone who has legged dozens, if not hundreds of enemy Mechs in the Golden Age of Salvage, I can assure you that excess damage from the Legs is transferred up to the corresponding Side Torso and not the Center.

It should theoretically affect lights the most as with heavies and assaults thus far straight CT damage has been the biggest killer for me.

Just wanted to say, I've tested this myself. Shot at a disconnected mech. Blew off his leg. Continued to shoot his leg. Damage transferred to the appropriate side torso. It follow the TT damage guide.

So I guess the paperdoll didnt' update then. when I paid attention last time, ct had red outline, right torso was gone and left leg and right leg were yellow and orange outlines. Internals didn't show any damage.

Was it a red outline, or red box? If your CT was blown up from ammo explosion then you could have red armor, but no internals left. Just pointing out. It would look like when you have blown a side torso out form a rear shot but still have armor on your front. The front armor is still there, but the internals are gone.

the ammo in the leg could have exploded, transferred to the side torso, blew up the lbx10 which then transferred damage to the the CT.

ACs do not explode last I know of. Only Gauss Rifles explode. Ammo explosions will transfer their damage till all damage is assigned. That means if it explodes in you arm/leg, it will spill over into its respective side torso, and any extra will then spill into the center torso, unless CASE is there to stop it.

interesting. thought I was being safe by putting ammo in arms/legs. Most matches it seems I die from ammo explosions. I guess CASE it is.

I put the ammo in the legs because I run DHS and can't put anything else down there. There is no safe place for ammo. If it gets hit your gonna hate it no matter where it is. CASE is only going to keep it out of CT, the rest of that side is going away no matter what.

I use DHS as well. Didn't realized damage would transfer from arms all the way to center torso. The other torso is usually still intact when I've been dying from ammo explosions. So even if it gives me a few extra seconds to be useful, I'll take it.

I've had quite a few matches now where engine is destroyed from ammo explosion. I'm in an Atlas. What's strange is that all of my ammo is in the legs and arms. None in the torso. And I'm not running an XL engine. My legs are still intact and my center torso is too. So either the paperdoll isn't updated correctly at the end, somehow the system thinks I have an XL engine with ammo in the torso or the stats at the end are wrong. Anyone else seeing weird stats at the end? To add to that, I used to put ammo in the head and actually died from losing my head due to ammo explosion. Which I think is a first for me. Moved the ammo out after that.

Same here and I had case equipped.

since adding case, haven't been destroyed by ammo explosion. I just assumed the arms would explode and not transfer in.

legs do have a higher risk though.. If ammo explodes there, you lose the leg, side torso, and the arm.

True, but they have to go a long way to blow up the ammo in an Atlas' leg and if I'm in a position to let them do it, I deserve what I get.
