All of the above listed are brawlers... well... most of them. The Trebuchet isn't really a brawler either in the traditional sense (and I admit, the Cataphract's head hitbox looks ridiculously small in these pictures)

The Catapult is and always has been a fire support mech... fire SUPPORT. It isn't a brawler. Even the SRM carrier is not actually intended to duke it out in short range for a prolonged fight. Much like the Rifleman, Jagermech, and other SUPPORT mechs, it must rely on killing its enemy quickly, NOT on shrugging off damage. It must rely on speed and precision (or hit and run tactics). It is NOT meant to slug things out.

The only people who are complaining about the Cat's head being too big are the people who are trying to brawl with a mech not intended for brawling. If you are getting hit in the head from extreme ranges then you need to stop making yourself such an easy target.

Furthermore... every mech has a weakness if you take the time to look. If you shrink the Catapult's head hitbox then you will need to also shrink the Hunchback 4G's right torso... and doing that would be a mess.

/rhetorical question
Why don't we just make all the mechs the same? Why even have different mechs?

WOW, the entirety of the Hunchback "hunch" counts against front-side-torso armor?!

...PGI should increase the armor max of that side torso 20% IMO (take it from the other side torso if you must.)

Team who accomplished this hit location mapping, Cheers to you! (Yes, deserves a sticky.)

Thanks so much for the work that went into all of these!

I took all of these excellent images and made a composite of just the headshots, for those of you who are interested.

I'm going to put it on my 2nd monitor for reference while playing.

Loved the 'Hit Here' arrow to the HBK-4Gs right shoulder. Please stop aiming at my 4Gs right soulder.

Not sure if this is mentioned, but every single picture of the rear Center Torso hit location is incorrect.

From the rear, if you shoot the portion connecting the legs to the hip, that is considered front Center Torso.

Just an FYI, I think the rear armor is not correct, regarding my statements above.

Perhaps, i will check it when get my lovely metal warrior.
I see that on the trebuchet, and it's possible there is the same think on other.
If it's correct, i will ad this in the guide as a "hitbox generality".

But in this hitbox guide, there is just one important thing:
It's not PGI infos, and that's why hitbox are unprecise and can may have some error !
I just try to esquiss and locate the parts hitbox !

These are great, but I have one minor request. On some of the mechs (i.e. the dragon) there's an extra shot at an angle showing how the side and center torso hitboxes connect when viewed from the side. Could we possibly get one of these shots for the catapult? It's got one of the hardest side torsos in the game to actually hit, so it'd be nice to see exactly which bits count.

Wow, I'm guessing the new Training grounds feature will be invaluable for helping out with this task :D Looking forward to seeing if you have any adjustments to the hit locations, or whether you were spot on with your allocations before.

Hello oldhasu,
in this case the guide is correct and does show the actual hitbox. The highlightened part shown in the MWO mechlab doesn't. Take time to read the previous comments in the topic. And even more simple launch a sandbox in the game and try to fire at the shoulder of the Awesome.

By the way, now it will be easier for us to check if our hitboxes are correct or not.
We are still working on it.

Thank's to all for the support and messages.
See you on the field

Since I was curious about the profile of a catapult's side torso when viewed from angles other than head-on, when I ran across one in the training grounds I just had to do some testing. These are the results - the area highlighted in orange is the side torso hitbox. Really drives home how small the side torsos are on this mech!
