MW4 says hello. I would suggest PGI do something quickly, it should be VERY difficult to aim accurately while using jump jets. If this game devolves into the pop-tarting contests that were prevelant in MW4 I won't be hanging around much longer.

And yes, I saw this tactic being used by 'teams' for the first time last night as well.

and so it begins

I think the bad rap "poptarting" has came from the physics of MW4, it was actually easier to aim while in the air with JJs then on the ground. I don't think we have the same aiming ability issue here. Of course I drove the Mkll, didn't everyone?

Nope, Uziel w/ 2xERLL and 2xUAC2 :)

Back on topic, I agree that it's far more difficult to poptart in MWO than MW4, and I really don't think we'll see much of it in the future (although, they might carve themselves out a niche, particularly with the Highlander on the way). The base cap mechanic alone makes poptarting less effective. Jump-snipers holding a ridge? Sneak around 'em and cap. If you leave the assaults/heavies to keep them target-rich, they might not even notice until it's too late.

I think most of it's current utility comes with the fact that it's new, and most PUGs have no idea how to deal with it.
Not sure how well it does in 8mans.

I now always use JJ in all mechs that can. I have "poptarted" in them all, but it's not nearly as BS as it was in MW4 and I haven't spent a whole match doing it like those in MW4 did but mainly used it against mechs showing their backsides so when they turn around the see nothing. By my terms that's perfectly acceptable, but not exploiting or OP.

Try to get a spotter to get LOS and then nail them with indirect LRM fire.

Which does nothing when they are popping up from behind cover. Try again.

Yeah but now it is easier and more convenient.

Still, it isn't at the point it feels really exploitable or abusable just yet. Just like a decent enough idea to sometimes work.

Ehhh, agree to disagree. At least about the part about it being a decent idea that sometimes work. I know DV8 has ran 3D poptarts since it dropped, and I'm sure other groups have. Personally, I think they're great to have around. Get them in the hands of someone that can nail cockpits 600+ meters out and their devastating.

I do agree that they're not exploitable. Even with the JJ changes and the PPC buff there is a learning curve to aiming and convergence while JJ'ing. Now, if 3rd person view made it in....thats another topic all together.

Anyone remember how MW2 always turned into everyone jumping from the start of the match? This isn't anything new.

It didn't work well for your team last night. -_-

Jump sniping has some viability. But a random 8v8 isn't a good test, as you know.

To me winning is working well and you guys are far from a random pug 8.

Every time I load up this game to play, fricken mechs show up! WTF is up with that? If things don't change, I will consider playing something else.

I tried the 3d with 2ppc gauss.

It sure was fun to play, but it really isn't anything new.

Pre-JJ "fix" (when you only needed one for full thrust) we had the 3d with 2x gauss.

You certainly have a penchant for making overly aggressive, unfriendly and irrelevant posts.

I dont drop with teams and never have. In fact, i havnt played much lately due to the Verizon/East Coast routing gateway issue giving me an otherwise seizure prone latency with MWO.

But if you insist on teaching me a lesson for questioning your apparent overwhelming prowess and to prove your supremacy, i'll be more than happy to go 1v1 so you can fraps your undoubted victory...

That is, of course, if you're comfortable playing alone.

Just call it how I see it sir. I've got you pegged for just another bad with a loud keyboard.

Picard's been busy in this thread. Half of the post are bads that argue semantics so they can be right about something, for once.

the 3d has made the game fun again. made it turn in the right direction away from close range to more range play. need more mechs like this:D very few mechs can pull off the range game right, 3d is 1 of them

Not sure what that means but your entire team QQ'd on us in an 8 man because we had range and you didn't.

Only time we have had an entire team just get pissed and disconnect rather than take a beating. We still laugh about it on a regular basis. Would love to have a recording of your coms that night.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with anything being OP. This has to do with a deep rooted paranoia of why we had to wait 10 YEARS for another MechWarrior game.

So, let's just do as the guru's of wisdom state. "Just ignore everyone. It will all be OK!"

Why wait until MWO v4 to kill this one. Let's just get it out the way now... -_-
