As for the balance lets mix between laser and autocannon:
Medium same range as ac 10 same heat as mpl or close to better damage and maybe one more ton
Small same range at medium laser ...
I just think that for the advantages you should get some balances like minimum range .
But the idea to have some small or medium scaled ppc is for me a fun tought.

When clans come in, with their superior/smaller FF and Endo, and their 2slot/6ton 15dmg ERPPCs I will be somewhat happier.

Better than you may think, i easily screw mechs over with it, i average 600-800 damage per match using it, it just takes a little more skill to use

If you say so, I keep my dragon PPC usage to the torso hardpoints on my 1C, the flame arms are just too nice for steering lasers.

Guess its just a preference at that point, i have a CTF-1X with 2 PPC's and a UAC5, def a fun build to try

(if you dont mind PPC's in the arms that are close)
(or you can move the PPC's into the side torsos, but i dont like not using my arms :x)

I love side torso PPCs on the cataphracts, they're mounted so high up you can shoot over everything. Besides, if you need your arm traverse while sniping you're doing it wrong.

My cataphract gets in some wierd places, i play PPC's mid range, i dont snipe. i stay around 200-150 meters, and only get close if im forced to.
for instance on Snow Forest Colony, i can get ontop of the rock ledge that goes around the cave entrance and to the other side of the caves to the snow coccblock the other side deals with.
I cant look down when above the cave mouth with my torso, so i just shoot down with my PPC's because i have arms, like i said preference (and sometimes playstyle)

Anywho, i recommend trying the dual ppc 1uac5 ctf-1x build, it works with ppcs in the arms or torso's, 3 tons of ammo, and 15 doubles with a standard 280

hit detection still too inconsistent. you can target a stationary mech at ~500m (well within max and beyond minimum ranges), and do 0 damage
alternatively, i've run around in a k2 with quad ppc's, fired at a stationary target long after all weapons have had time to converge, and between the 4 ppc's do damage to 3 parts (RT/CT/LT).

Heavy PPC has same range as standerd PPC, 15 damage and 15 heat. PPC Capacitor adds 5 damage and 5 heat to any type of PPC it is equiped on. Totaling 20 damage and 20 heat per Heavy PPC.
Heavy PPC is 10 tons and uses 4 critical slots. PPC Capacitor is 1 ton and uses 1 critical slot.
