Spider 5K: What Do I Do With It?

4MGs just doesn't seem to be cutting it, regardless of energy weapon, but I can't figure out a way to fit anything heavier on it without losing practically everything else.

ERLL in the energy slot, and MGs in the ballistic slots. Use the LL as your primary weapon, and if you happen upon a stripped backside let loose with the MGs.

It's the weakest of the Spiders (and consequently the weakest 'mech in the game), but the MG just got buffed to 1 DPS, so four of them are actually as much DPS as an AC/2 now - just a wee bit shorter range, and spread, and you have to stay on target.

Alternative, drop everything for an AC/2 and some ammo. I actually ran one briefly with both AC/2 and ERLL, but I had to sacrifice both JJs and armour to do so - and in the end it wasn't worth it.

Mg's will never be worth it unless they fundamentally re-program them not to be hit-scan and turn them into an actual gun that shoots shells like the ac's do.

No, they need to reduce it by about all of it. It shouldn't have a cone at all, then the weapon might actually be useful at its current damage level of 1 DPS. As it is, it's still crap unless you can boat six of them (hint: there's only a single variant of a single chassis that can do that).

I just played a match in my 4MG+ERLL SDR-5K where I had a legged Raven to play with at the end. I couldn't kill it with MGs, even though they're now 1 DPS and I had a ton of ammo left. The spread makes it impossible to put your damage anywhere near where you want.

the 5k, more than anything, will teach you to drive. How to avoid fire. How to run away strategically relocate.

The cone of fire is the last thing that needs to be reduced or removed, before the 5K is remotely viable as the 4 MG boat.

I would sell the 5K and wait to buy the recently announced Spider Hero Mech - SPD-MAN.

It comes with 6 .5 ton Web Throwers that stun lock your opponents for 0 damage. Once you web all the enemies, you are free to cap and win!

I have had some fantastic rounds in my 5K, before the most recent MG buff. I run mine with an ER Large Laser, 4 MGs w/ 2 tons of ammo, 3 jump jets, an XL255, Endo and Ferro, and max out armor everywhere but the head.

I do agree that it's tough to use, though.

1 ML, XL210, and a UAC5 with 2 tons of ammo. Run up behind enemy heavies, lay into rear armor, run away, rinse, repeat. That's how I leveled mine, at least.

Popular options are-

Use a XL170 Engine and then:

Put a LB10-X on it
Put a AC10 on it
Put a AC5 on it
Put a AC2 on it
Put a UAC5 on it

Pair any of the above with a Large, Medium, Medium pulse, Large pulse or ER Large laser.

Because Mguns are damn sure not worth putting on it.

Max XL, MPL, 4mg+3tons ammo, endo, and I think Ferro too. Unlock and add a UAV module. Run through enemy team spraying everything with mg fire. Pop the uav and keep them trolled under its umbrella. Sip from your glass of tears as the LRMs* rain in.

*50-50 shot your team has lrms, so its a special type of roulette.

Did you really mess around with a mech builder to get that? :)

You could like, put on MGs and a Flamer. Total troll build. Might be kind of fun when you can get away with it.

No, I commonly run these builds as my Spider-5K

XL170, LB10X (3 Tons of ammo), Medium laser




XL170, UAC5 (4 tons of ammo), Medium Laser, 2 jumpjets.

The bad spiders and commandos are the only mechs I used gxp to get to basic before I sold. This is the reason I am not looking forward to the Flea.
