It is no secret that Battletech allows for a variety of playstyles. It appeals to those who love the lore, the tech, the numbers, oh the sweet numbers. It appeals to those who love the strategy of simulated combat in a giant, walking machine of death. It appeals to those who just love to blow stuff up.

I have found, in past games, that my greatest pleasure comes in pre and post-battle. I spend as much or more of my time making changes before a fight than I do in the heat of battle. I can't wait to get my hands on new tech, new chassis. I even love repainting the things. Squeezing the trigger and seeing my labors come to fruition is just the icing on the cake.

How do you play?

Tinkering around with builds is wonderful, but unless you take it onto the battlefield it's just numbers.

What I do is look at a good general layout in TRO's (For instance the AV1-OG or AV1-OF variants of the Avatar) and then make adjustments to make those configs work for my niche play style. In the past that took extensive customizing in the mech lab (MW3, MW4:Mercs MP3) but was still do able. I'm very excited that in MW:O you can get start customizing off variant TRO's already (for instance the Catapult K2 model).

But once i get all the configs working just how I want, then its go time on the battlefield...

To me, the whole point of hitting up the Lab is to create something which works for your style. So, it's a means to an end, not an end itself.

I like tinkering but I do plan to spend most of my time shooting. :)

I've never worried about lore or canon. More interested in what is fun or interesting. I love to find unorthodox approaches and solutions to things :-)

Saying that, I respect all views and playstyles.....except for boating, elitism and suicide scouting >.<

I'd rather have a good game than be right.

I want all ammo based weapons!! I tinker around with every mech to suit my needs, mostly just for the guns I put MGs on everyting. If no ACs I'm fine with the MGs.(gosh that ryhmed, I need to stop typing!)

right now I'm going to tinker alot since the selection is limited. I was hoping to go with a fast jump capable medium but they decided not to add any of those!

Once more mechs come out and the selection improves I may change minor things but I will generally run mainly stock mechs.

Tinkering isn't as satisfying as killing, but I will do lots of it, because it is enjoyable and it makes the killing part more likely.

I prefer to tinker more then the battle myself. (although the battle is still pretty friggin sweet)

Then again I played as a mechanic alot on the TT of bt, so theres that effecting my view >.>

I'm not here to min/max, but I do like testing all of the configurations and trying to find which ones suit my playstyle and mood! some days I'll ant nothing else to do than to overload on SRMs and plow them into someone's rear armor, other times I want to be able to hang back and shoot with long range precision.

I could not have said it better!!! My only knock against the mech lab is the "hardpoints". I have tried to work the Atlas(AS7_K), to no avail.

customization is nothing if you´re not gonna take it to the field and beat the*** out of enemies... though i like optimizing my machines, at the end of the day i´m a mechwarrior, not a goddam tech :)

I love playing around in the Mechlab to see what kind of beastly configurations I can build. See how many crits I can squeeze into a mech. Although I need to stop building mechs with that are 10 million C-Bills or more, seriously. Here is a Catapult I built, only 3 crits left over.

"Darkstar"
Catapult CLPT-C1
14,184,235 C-Bills
BV = 1,387
-----
VOX 325 XL (86.4kph)
Endo Steel Structure
12.5t Standard Armor (200pts)
5 Double Heatsink
-----
4x Medium Laser
2x LRM-15 +4 Ammo
-----
2x CASE
2x Artemis IV FCS

This pretty much fill my style, i like to compare Mechlab like the Soldier Profile in CoD or BF3 multiplayer.

Get good guns and abilities it's a thing but you keep trying until you find the perfect combination for your playstyle, then all the joy it's get into action and prove how good you are.

Here would be similar get a mech, try wich kind of combat/tactic suits you better, wich weapons fits better (are you a long range spammer with PPC or a cautious/precise one that likes the extra kick of the gauss, also do you like to hit and run forcing the enemy to waste time and ammo or just a glorious/psycho 1st line roller)
