My first run in with MLP was when I was very young, with the G1 stuff. Of course back then, I remember thinking it was stupid, as I was too cought up with all the 'boys' stuff, He man, Transformers, ect. Then I heard about FiM a couple of years ago, I was in college, and was just like "oh, new MLP, whatever... it's probably stupid as hell."
That was a mistake, a very close friend of mine, who's opinion I respect on media, kept talking about it. Finally she got me to watch. She started me on Griffon the Brush off. The Gilda episode. I was shocked at how, adult the series felt. Sure there were pastel pony's, but it was more than just that... the animation was amazing, the voicework better than most things I've seen in the past 10 years. And wait, what was this, continuity in a kid's show?
So I went back, started with episode 1, and I haven't looked back. It's so, absolutely good. [with the exception of a few episodes that has a rather, bad writer, and don't get me started on the wedding 2parter and how continuity breaking it is]
Then I started looking at the community, the sheer number of fanworks, music, video's, parody, artwork and story's... Then when John Delance got the part of Discord... then the fact that Hasbro's had to completely re-arrange it's PR to allow it's voice actors to do conventions... it just all spiraled, so fast.
Bronies have done soo much good for the world at large. Is there a percentage of the fandom that's weird? Yeah there is. But you know what, there's that same percentage of the fandom in Star Wars, Star Trek, and pretty much any fandom out there that's weird [rule 34 I'm looking at you]
In the end... I'm proud to be a MLP:FiM fan. I'm not going to hide it. And I'll wear my pride here in Mechwarrior Online.
