Between what Double Rainboom did with their MLP puppets being available and frankly, a big enough fanbase...yeah, we've hit the point where you sometimes can't tell the difference between fanwork and studio work, other than the obvious (in this case, stuff like "shake that plot") fan lingo. Flash being what it is, it's likely the first large-scale broadcast of a series that can be redone privately with commonly available tools.
Gawd help us if they manage to find vocal dopplegangers for the rest of the cast like Rina manages to do with Twilight Sparkle (never mind the actual VAs adding in non-show-but-pony content as well). At that point, we probably will have ponies on the Internet for the appreciable future, 24/7/365. Somewhere, Hasbro's marketing people are likely still trying to figure out the implications- even if Wal-Mart is busy epic failing in that regard.
Whoever sold them the licensing rights to the images in question is likely laughing their *** off all the way to the bank.
