Can't help but wonder if Twilight shortly thereafter annexes Ponyville and declares independence from the rest of Equestria, abetted by MussoLuna who attempts a coup against Celestia.*

from what I've read on the internet so far (not the most reliable place i know)
is that the first 2 eps of the next season are going to be part of a princess twilight arc.
(well 3 eps in all, last ep of season 3 was the 1st part of 3 about twilight's arc)
and some things about how the staff swear, twilight isn't going to change personality wise.
so this leads me to think, that come the next season the first 2 are going to follow twilight as a princess
and, her trials as one, in the end due to the lack of been with her friends, she'll give up on been a princess and go back to how things were. for her own happiness.
I'm calling it lol

HOLY ****! I didn't even see that bit. The Derpy sighting I saw was when Twilight jumps off of the carriage, and marches along with the rest of the mane six. At what time does this pop up.
I love how she's blinking at the viewers, kind of like saying "What, you didn't think they would actually get rid of Me, did you?"
EDIT:
Got it. At about 19:48 into the vid:
Aaaaaaaand, if you look to the far right, you'll see Dr. Hooves as well.
Awesome.

A possibility, or the opposite might happen and Twilight will get though her trails and tribulations because the others are there to help her.

I was looking for scans on all the different covers for the MLP comics out there, and came across the cover for a resent "Mars attacks" Graphic novel:
Nope, it's not a fan work, it's an official cover. IDW Publishing are the folks handling the MLP comics, and I guess they felt that the best pony simply couldn't be contained within one universe.
I feel this strange, tugging sensation at My wallet, and I think I've been hit with the "want it need it" spell.

And right now IDW is doing a whole bunch of Mars Attacks cross overs with a bunch of their other titles so who know? We might see a Mar Attacks/MLP cross over with toned down violence. It might happen ,Shyeah, right, and Gryphons might fly out of my butt.

Applejack is not the first nor the last stereotypical farm girl archetype that's looked like that, if that's what you're trying to imply.

There's a reason why they shove that bunch over to one side. Them's the creepy seats.
Also, there was abundant Derpy sightings in the episode. This all by itself would have made the episode worth including in "Season 3 bits you should watch".

now why am i getting discworld stuck in my head?
There actually is a rather decent Discworld/MLP crossover or two.
Last I checked, one involved Pinkie Pie ending up becoming a party goddess. Literally.

It's the distinctive triple-freckles on each cheek of the "farmgirl" in question that make me think the artist was having fun with the cover art this time.
Raze this barn, raze this barn, #1, 2, 3, 4?

Because, that's actually what the artist was eluding to directly. You can see in his description and the name. "The Rite of Askh-Ente"

This is an alternate cover for issue 3, had I know it existed, I would have ordered it instead of the normal I got:
Look at little Spike, so much swag, in such a small package.

well its safe to say the reference isn't lost, on the artwork on its own merits,
always a sign of a good artist
