I'm quite sure it was in one of the NGNG podcasts but I'm not gonna listen to all of them to figure it out. Time will tell and in just over a week, we should know.

If you could stream the playoffs that would be awesome! There is nothing quite like coming up against a team like Steel Jaguar when your in an up and coming unit. The precision of their attacks, formations and positions gave our team a lot to think about. Glad we managed to take a game off you SJR ;) I do wish that a lot more people could see how good organised 8 man play can be. Streaming the playoffs would go a long way to giving mwo a 'bump' for the competitive side.

Its good to see teams are still battling it out for the playoffs in a couple of divisions at least, maybe more if there are upsets.

the hard part would be convincing the teams to give away strategies by streaming.

This is what I was thinking, I'd love to be streaming these games, but is it worth the information given away?

Well, if nothing else, we'll post our playoff matches after the playoffs are over with. But if we get in, we'll think about streaming them. While I don't want our opponents (particularly if we win, our next opponent) to know the configs/strats we are running, I think that for the sake of MWO, and the competitive side, that I'd rather generate the interest. Even if I think it would be primarily the MWO teams watching. But I think the championship match, if streamed, would get 300+ viewers, over a 1000 if we get PGI to help promote it (maybe have the stream be on their channel). We do have a Run Hot or Die channel, and if any teams that get in the playoffs want to use that to stream playoff games, let me know.

That's a good point, however I think the game is still changing so fast that mechs, builds and therefore strategies are going to be completely different after this league and by the time the next competition arrives. During this league alone builds being brought to battle have changed quite a bit. If this game is ever going to become an e-sport or have a larger following in competition, streaming and vids post games is going to have to happen.

Then again I totally understand not wanting to reveal any intel, as we purposely did not put out any vids of our 8 man play (no pun intended) before or during the league, feeling that as underdogs, to have the best chance to beat some of the more established teams was to remain underestimated and an unknown value.

Winning is an end goal for all of us of course, but think about most sports and you don't really have any secret tactics as such because everything is televised or you can go see the game live. All I can say is that I would love to see the playoffs, if not then record them and put them up later when strats have changed significantly and write up a nice match report for any of us unfortunate enough to not be participating. pretty please. :)

If KaoS makes it to the final I'll talk to the guys and see if we'll stream so long as our coms are not heard. I think that's more important then seeing 1 mechs config. I do agree that to get the competitive side going it needs to be exposed. So in the playoffs no. In the finals. Maybe. As I'm sure after the final this game will change again with new mechs and new tactics. What we use now will be old news when a new season rolls around.

I think throwing a 3 min delay on the stream will take care of most problems. As all of us are using comms outside of MWO, it shouldn't be too hard to get it to keep those out of the stream too.

I think a lot of playoff games are going to be more conservative since the teams playing are going to be closer in skill. 3 minutes (IMHO) wouldn't be sufficient. I'm sure you're right about being able to stream without voice comms.

As an update for the hunt for top seed, KaoS dropped 1 game vs SIN last night when we went 3 and 1. We've been trying to get new DCs some play time and will be doing so again versus Skye Rangers. While we do want top seed, it's not fair to throw Voltron at every opponent and rob other DCs and players of play time when they've been practicing up hard and deserve to drop into matches.

We just really wanted to fight the 7th seed. Cuz 7 is a lucky number.

Some SS from the drops I was in. (Super secret mechs are super secret. noooo way anyone could figure out what we were in!)

Hahahaha, agreed. We don't have anything against ELP whatsoever, but I'd be lying if I said we didn't want to earn back some ego.

I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch if only for $#!ts and giggles, but the team is not quite back to where it used to be yet.

I never got to play in the final vs you guys so I'd be excited to match up against you. Also, no disconnects would be nice too, haha. Unfortunately, this game is still in a state where we get a more than tolerable number of those. Case in point, Chix on game 1 vs Luna Wolves.

I'd like to see the playoffs streamed, but as others mentioned, giving away strats that freely is a real security issue. So I thought about it for a bit, and realized that it could be easily avoided by doing the same thing other professional sports do (like American Football):
  • Don't stream comms.
  • Have an announcer/shoutcaster/whatever you want to call them commentating live over the match
  • Have a 5 minute delay
As I said, think of it like football. Everyone can see the play that is happening but the coach and team don't yell out exactly what they're going to do next.
