I was wondering if anyone has encountered this. Midway through the match, I took damage and my ecm went red. I'm asking for confirmation that it can be damaged now?

Yes it can. Today's patch notes say they reduced ECM health from 10 to 3. (Same health as a Gauss Rifle now.)

According to the patchnotes, ecm was assigned health value, so I would assume that means ecm can be destroyed via crits just like any other internal component

As per the patch notes:
  • Fixed issue where Beagle Active Probe, ECM, and Command Console were not taking critical hit damage
  • Set ECM health to 3

not if youre a light lol. Your best bet is to keep it in a torso. With lag shielding being cut down and lights being easier to hit, more lights are being legged.

Now if only they would give it the AMS treatment and force it into an assigned spot for proper targeting or maybe just get rid of AMS having to be seen visually and let it be placed anywhere as well.

For some reason I had to think of AMS in legs now.

this is a horrible solution to nerfing ECM.

They did the same thing for the gauss which after the initial outcry is sorta alright now right?

now if they make the ecm explode like the gauss, maybe that'd be enough of a liability to offset its dominance

Oh goodness no, that would be too much of a nerf against ECM. That would be too demanding on those poor ECM pilots, running around passively negating lock-ons. Oh the horror.

I logged in JUST to like this. This is an AWESOME idea to help reduce the overall impact of ECM

ECM ought to be a short antenna on the cockpit that can be shot off. =D By the way, why is it called a "cockpit"?

Because early cockpits resembled (or at least put people in mind of) the pits used for **** (male chicken) fights.

well ECM is going to get hit again on the 19th when PPC's get there EM effect (or at least a potion of it) when it disables ECM for 5 seconds if a mech with ECM gets hit with a PPC (both versions ofc). So you will soon see LRM mechs with a PPC on them to shut off that annoying ECM.
